Yeah, nothing's going to change, no matter how much or little we say. It comes out when it comes out.
The four-issue monthly mini-series took about a year to complete. Nothing's been heard on the regular series (though the cover art is great), and the book… as I and someone else stated on here, I ordered mine back in February because it was made to sound like you had to do it ASAP or you'll miss out. 88MPH isn't the first independent publisher to experience growing pains. If anyone remembers the first days of Image, some series took seeming eons to complete. Or even get off the ground at all. Video gamers remember the pain of the PSOne Lunar or Resident Evil 2 delay or even the latest Gamecube Zelda. The wait was worth it, and forgotten when product was in hand, but anytime something changed, a press release or news story was sent out. It's better than everyone saying “I don't know”.
I'm sympathetic to smaller first-time publishers getting their feet off the ground. Starting a business isn't easy. But months and months of “it will be out around this time/cut off date is now, so you better order, they're about to go”. Just write a mass e-mail. Drop a bulletin here. Just be honest with us and keep us in the loop.
I'd rather have straight-up updates just simply saying there's something pending, they hope to have it resolved around this date, then make another statement saying if they're any closer or not. A “sorry guys, still awaiting approval” would be a God send, especially since Seb was so good about keeping people in the loop through the run of the mini-series. We never did get feedback from that one message that was supposed to take “two weeks for an answer”, but is getting closer to the month mark.
Just say “our hands are tied. We're still waiting.” I can deal with that answer. It's better than blank space.
I e-mailed a distributor in regards to the progress of this book, and he's just as in the dark as we are about anything going on in terms of updates. He's not getting any feedback either. Apparently from the mail, orders are still being taken? I'm just relaying what I was told. He gave me the option to cancel and get my money back. I've waited this long. My loyalty, however jaded at the moment, is still there.
I think after missing the “two-week” deadline, the fans and buyers are owed just a simple update. That's all I'd like to have.
Seb, I am being patient as best I can, and still very much want this book.
