How about I move to call it a plot hole/frak-up and move on, so we can save our energies for other things? Any seconds?

I believe that was suggested by myself and several others earlier in the thread. smile

The people behind the movie never gave it this much thought. It was just there as a simple joke and to advance the plot. If you were to ask a crew member what they meant with that line of dialogue, they would probably stare back at you and have no idea what you were talking about.

I guess we shouldn't be too surprised that we're examining lines of dialogue like this though. After all, we do examine every frame of the movies so we can have replicas….

I had an idea that comes from one of Harold Ramis' statements. He said that the first one is Peter Venkman's character-arc, as he changes from a cynical two-bit hack into a true believer.

My idea is that, after seeing what ghosts can do, he realized that Dana could be possessed at any given moment. Egon and Winston told him about “the Twinkie,” indicating that the PKE levels were getting stronger.

So, he took some with him (no idea where he got it) in case Dana was possessed. He needed to keep her out of harm's way. Notice in the scene where, after he knocks her unconscious, he leaves. Suddenly he knows better than to take advantage of a vulnerable client. (And he called Egon only mere minutes after administering the drug.)
