Well…I have read many posts on here about GB 3, and the introduction of new ghostbusters…which I believe to be essential to a new GB movie, purely to please the movie studio that's paying for its production. They will want a new cast, possibly cheaper cast, than the originals, so that way, if it IS a hit, they can make a sequel. However, my GB 3 would be abit more of a compromise…We'd have new, and old. We don't absolutely have to have Murray for this one…even though I have always loved the Peter Venkman character…if he doesn't want to be in the movie…fine…he can do a quick cameo, if he wants, if anything at all. Everyone thinks we have to have 4 replacements right off the bat though? Who says we have to have 4 ghostbusters right away? I think it's abit more original, if we just have Ray,Winston and Egon train 2 guys (not oscar, or egons child). Maybe two young guys from a school that Egon's teaching at. The two trainees could be friends…before Egon “recruits” them. They'd break them in…Ray and Winston could take these two new guys out, for test runs…and bust with them. You can eventually fill the team out to 4, with some characters…possibly Oscar, or a relative of Egons…but I don't think they should be the characters we introduce as the “core guys”…I don't want this to be about passing things on, to family members, and keeping it “in the blood”. You also want to incorporate a feeling of starting over. Also just use some creativity. I would just like to stay away from the idea of an “oscar revenge factor”. The idea of using Oscar in the plot, just terrifies me, because I'm afraid that SOMEHOW, they might use some cheesey plot, like Oscar learns about his past, and how he was a prize of an acient, dead carpathian warlock, who wanted to possesse him and take over the world…and now Oscar seeks revenge on everything that isn't living? Just the idea of seeing a trailer for that makes me cringe…however…as long as Oscar isn't the main focus, and more of a background character…or a “winston-like” ghostbuster…who kinda just gets into it for the job aspect…that'd be fine.
The two new “recruits”…well, I don't know what kinda of personalities you could write for them. I think it'd work out well if they were longtime friends (within the story, and predating the story)….One could fill out a comedic role…the other would be comedic as well, yet have deep knowledge of the paranormal…I guess they'd be a Ray and Peter type duo…you wouldn't need a recruit who was very smart…or fill out the “brain” role, since Egon would still be a part of the group….and they could possibly fill those roles out in future installments. I also think though, it might not be a bad idea going with 3 “mouths” and 1 “brain”…as opposed to the 1 “brain”, 1 “heart”, 1 “mouth”,etc.
I think you have to develop new plot tones, perhaps the guys within the group (once the group is up to 3 or 4)…you could have some adversarial undertones…almost as if the others in the group aren't CRAZY about their co-workers (not to the point of not caring for the others well-being…but perhaps showing lots of one-upsmanship…and trying to show the others up). I just think you need to get away from the last two movies, try to use different styles of humor, and moving the plot along, because while the first one was a great, tremendous success…the second was enjoyable….however it was also not very original and a complete re-hash of the first. I just think they should make it a point of going with different styles of humor, to make us laugh, different ways of moving the plot along, etc. The idea here is, to think of something new…I just don't want them to fall back on Oscar being a ghostbuster and having a life-long vendetta against the undead. More importantly, not politically correct non-sense, no offense to women, african americans, puerto ricans or those who are in wheel chairs…but I can't have that…african american ghostbusters…sure…female ghostbusters…that'd be new…sure, maybe not in GB 3…but GB 4? sure. I cannot have a ghostbuster in a wheel chair.
“wow, somehow every possible bust we get a call on, is wheel chair acessible…how convenient!!!”
