Far from a rant but here are corrections:
A new Robocop has officially been announced. I do not know if it will go by the name you mentioned (I certainly hope not) but it has already started production. And according to Danny Boyle while promoting the movie Sunshine, that the next movie, at this point tentatively called 28 Months Later is still in the works.
As far as Red Dawn, I haven't heard anything about a sequel, but I have heard however that it is being looked at for a remake…
Now about to your regularly scheduled Ghostbusters thread on a Ghostbusters forum.

A remake of Red Dawn doesn't really make much sense considering where things are now. It was different in 84 when the country was still largely communist and the Berlin Wall hadn't yet fallen… but beyond political beligerance and a puppet President, how is an invasion of the US by Russia politically relevant?

Let alone the fact that the GB3 rumors are not only “blogger” rumors.
Aykroyd and Ramis have confirmed in interviews that a script is being written and that if its good, production will hopefully start next year.
Bill Murray even said in a video interview that he has been rejuvenated by the franchise and would be interested in GB3 if the script is good.

We've all been hearing about the rumour for eons.
I've been hearing about it from the late 90s, and it may have even been early 90s for all I care.
It's no point getting excited, you will just get burnt each time it turns into disappointment.
I still think about it, but don't dwell on all these reports on a third.
