Whatever gets Bill Murray on the project, I don't care if Louis Tully is Oscar's dad!

I think Bill Murray should only get on board if it's a well written script.

This kind of desperation is no good for anyone.

Making the movie just to slap the name Ghostbusters III on it is not good for the franchise.

I want a sequel as much as anyone, but I want a sequel that makes sense in the storylines already established.

Saying “Whatever gets Bill Murray on board”… So you'd be fine with it if they made the movie where ghosts are proven to not be real and the Ghostbusters are exposed by Walter Peck as the frauds he claimed them to be?

I mean, you have to have your limits. You can't want the movie so bad that you'll be willing to let them rape the franchise into something that its not just to get the movie made.

I'm not a upset as everyone else about the possibility of rumors that Peter may be Oscars real father. Its a little unexpected, but maybe be plausible. We have no idea of timelines between Peter and Dana's length of romance between the two films. There was the dialog that Dana said Peter never asked her to marry her and he just always fell asleep whenever the question came up. I do agree it seems more natural if Peter is Oscars stepfather as GB2 clearly showed Dana and Peter would be romantically hitched again at the films end. I've no idea whether the “stiff” is Oscars father. I don't recall any mention that he was the man Dana married. I thought this was just speculation wasn't it? So it could go either way on acceptance for me. Its not a big deal. But maybe it should stay for Peter as stepfather and he's been around him since the 2nd film.

It was never mentioned in the movie, but Sigourney confirmed it during one of the Ghostbusters II chat show appearances.

Although the father of Oscar was never confirmed in Ghostbusters II it was strongly suggested that the musician was the father. Making Oscar Venkmans son in Ghostbusters III to me wouldn't feel like they're staying true to the story. It would feel like a contradiction.

There's just no need to write Oscar as venkmans real son. It could still be a father son relationship between stepfather and stepson.

Can you link us up to that clip where she confirms that.

Considering I don't even recall which chat show it was on, I wouldn't know where to begin.

And I just remembered, although the Stiff isn't mentioned by name, it's pretty obvious even in the film when Dana says “he got a job offer from a orchestra in London and he took it”.

Appropriately enough, because of his own connection to the Ghostbuster franchise, it was an episode of “The Arsenio Hall Show”. As I recall, since I watched it, she referred to Andre as “Mister Nose Spray”.

It would have been in May or June 1989, as it was during the press buildup to GB2's release.

Well… that's a lot of words put into my mouth! I'm gargling.

My point was if he is the holdout, whatever needs to be done to placate him should be considered. I'm actually a supporter of Venkman dying and becoming a ghost in part III… not only to appease him, I knid of like the idea if it's done correctly. Not a cameo… Ghost Pete should tag along with the team a la Slimer and help them catch ghosts.

There have been several script drafts over the years… the only one that saw the light of day was turned into the video game story. The studio seems to keep ordering more scripts. Since we haven't seen the third movie pushed into production there is obviously a problem with the script. They can't seem to get it right.

Dan and co. vs. the studio. They seem to have different goals in place for the third movie. There's really no other logical reason for the project to be in dev hell for so long. Sony loves money. Columbia loves money.

Although when they finally have a script ready, who's to say that
a) the original cast will still be alive
b) all of us (ghost fans) will still be alive
c) films will still be made in the same way we know, etc etc

It might be another hundred years until everyone is 100% satisfied with everything. I'm not being desperate… I'm being realistic.

The musician was strongly suggested to be the father? The Stiff? I'll have to watch it again and get the subtext…. bizarre. I never got that impression.

I ofter this possibility: Oscar and Venkman could have a father/son dynamic… and maybe that's what's been poorly reported in the press last week. Peter refers to himself as Oscar's uncle in the second film… so without it being outrageous or unrealistic or whatever they could simply have a dynamic without the need for biological associations leaving Teh Almighty Canon intact.
