Some new comments from Ivan Reitman:

Ivan Reitman on Ghostbusters 3: ‘Murray Just Needs To Read It’

Ivan Reitman, director of the new romantic comedy “No Strings Attached,” told Speakeasy that the main obstacle that stands in the way of the long-discussed “Ghostbusters 3” is getting everyone in the cast to actually check out the script. “I think we need all of the principal actors to read it,” Reitman said in an interview in Los Angeles on January 7. “One in particular has not read it at all yet – not a single draft, not nothing. But you know, it’s just getting his attention,” he said, referring to Bill Murray.
With “No Strings Attached,” Reitman said he wanted to make a youthful film about relationships. When asked if it would be possible to create something similarly youthful with a franchise that is more than 25 years old, he indicated that was one of their main goals when they started developing the project. “We have a way of doing it,” Reitman insisted. “I wasn’t going to do it until we found that out, and it is a generational story, actually - it’s effectively a generational story and it’s very well written.” Despite his confidence with the script itself, Reitman admitted that the prospect of actually making the film intimidates him. “We’ll see if it actually gets made. It’s a scary thing to think about for me, because I’m fucking with my past, but at the same time, I don’t just want to chicken out on the challenge. But it’s a great story and great characters.”
Reitman also said that given his efforts to get it into production, “Ghostbusters 3” seems like the most likely candidate for his next project, but suggested that if it doesn’t happen, he may look for another film like “No Strings Attached.” “I’m developing a few things,” he said. “But it’s the thing I’ve been the most intensely involved with after this after ‘No Strings,’ so it’s kind of the logical thing if it all comes together. And if it doesn’t, it’s okay, but then I would probably go find something more like this movie to do.”
“No Strings Attached” opens in theaters nationwide on Friday, January 21.
What does he mean with “I’m fucking with my past”?(*winston)

I have a lot of trouble buying that he actually said that.

We've never heard Ivan use that kind of language before, and during an interview for a new movie, I highly doubt he would suddenly for seemingly no reason.

However, the quote is pretty easy to discern, at least on my part… he just means that he would be revisiting and potentially messing with the franchise, because things that you add to it can change how the originals are viewed for some.

But again, I'd be shocked if Ivan actually said that.

Looks like a direct quote, so I'm pretty sure he said it.

Seems like i've heard him curse quite a bit during interviews and commentary tracks, actually. No big deal.

Pretty sure I've seen that same quote in other articles without the “fucking with my past” comment.

To Be Honest I respect Bill Murrays stance if he thinks the script is rubbish, I for one wouldn't wanna see a quick piece of crap like Year One. That saying I wish he'd make his mind up soon. I dont wanna be a ghost before it actually goes into production, but the way its going I might never get too see one if it ever does get made.

So Bill, READ THE F***ING SCRIPT

AND…… SAY

YES OR F***ING NO

apologies for the swearing but this is getting as tedious as the pictures from the Spiderman remake.

LOL, so you want news from a movie set, but not pictures that show you behind the scenes looks? Got it.

Nah, she just has a thing for brainy guys.

Yes, but…Louis? All right, fine. I'll just say she took pity on him and be done with it.

Lee Eisenberg comments on GB3

Lee Eisenberg, who is co-writing the Ghostbusters 3 script with Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd, is returning to his alma matter, Connecticut College to kick of a series of lectures, “Great Beginnings: Conversations with Alumni.” – while talking to The Day, Eisenberg had a few things to say about Ghostbusters 3, most in line with what we’ve heard thus far, but which we’ve rarely heard from either him or writing partner, Gene Stupnitsky directly.“We’ve been working really closely with Ivan Reitman for a couple years on it. Dan Aykroyd has been really involved. Harold Ramis has been very involved – we’re sharing a story credit on it with him. Then we reworked the script. I mean, that script went through a lot of rewrites, and it kept getting, we think at least, tighter and funnier. It took a little bit to really understand the tone of a movie like ‘Ghostbusters.’ It’s really scary when you’re writing characters you grew up on. … The last thing you want to do is disappoint.
“Right now, we have a script we haven’t worked on probably in a couple of months, and we’re waiting for Bill Murray to read it. People seem excited about it, and the studio seems high on it. … We’re very proud of it. We worked really hard on it, and I think it’d be a really fun movie.”
