I say keep it simple. Just get Ray Parker, Jr. to do a techno/dance remix of GB, then basic orchestra as in the first, with a little Moby in there.

Then Ray Parker Jr. should do a techno/dance remix at the end, or maybe Thunderpuss or Brother brown, or Dirty Vegas, or maybe Deepsky.

Okay. Moby? NO! Brittany Spears? NO! Metallica? NO! I'm not really understanding these suggestions coming from Ghostbusters fans! :@
I'm not trying to say that they suck because I'm not tryin' to piss anybody off, but give me a break! I agree that maybe the original theme could use some freshening up, but for a punk band to cover it!?!?!? NO! First of all, if Ray Parker Jr. doesn't want to redo it, just keep the original. True, it was the only hit song he ever really had, but nobody could ever do it like him! To even try it with someone else would be a sin. As far as other music to be used, let's think of some popular songs that will actually go along with the theme of the movie. The ghosts are all, for the most part, evil, so anything to do with Hell or anything like that will work. However, I agree that the songs should not be depressing, as someone has already said. One of my first picks would be “Highway to Hell” by AC/DC. Another possibility would be “I'm Your Boogeyman” by White Zombie. I'm not sayin' that they all gotta be rock or metal, but at least think of things that actually have something to do with ghosts or evil or something of that nature. Think about the first movie's soundtrack. “Savin' the Day” and “I Believe it's Magic.” I don't particular like these songs, but all of the songs on the first soundtrack had something to do, either indirectly or directly, with the movie itself. You can't make a Star Trek movie and use the theme from The Beverly Hillbillies, ya know what I mean? :p I also like the idea of keeping most of the orchestra work from the first movie in there. And I don't think that the Bus Boys got all the respect that they deserved for they're awesome song “Cleaning Up the Town.” Well, that's my two cents on the matter!

Oh, and NO techno/dance remix! If I ever hear the GB theme in that style, I'm gonna puke, . . . and then probably go postal! :p

The group New Found Glory made a punk cover of the Ghostbusters theme… you can download it off Kazaa or by other means. It has a good punk sound, but with some brass instruments added in. In my opinion a little heavy on the brass… listen to it and see.

Also, during my orientation week at university, a group called The Salads (never heard of them before then, but they're awesome) did a cover of the theme as well. This sounded better than the New Found Glory version because they had an electric guitar doing the part of the brass.

I think there should be an updated version to stir interest with the younger crowd, but the old version should be played during the opening title sequence to please all of us fans, with the new version playing at the start of the end credits, to please the newcomers.

I agree with those who say the original song, and a redone. I really liked what Run-DMC did for number two, and I'd like to see another artist do something like that, but not Josey Scott and Chad Kroeger. As much as I like those two, their music is overplayed, and I would probobly be too sick of their music to like the theme song. :-@
But I actually have a Ska cover of the Ray Parker Jr. song. It sounds like it was done by A New Found Glory, but I'm not quite sure. It is really good. I wouldn't mind seeing that in the album.
As for the other bands, I have a long list of bands that could be used, but that's just my tastes. Cold, Evanescence, Sevendust, Audioslave, Foo Fighters, and The Offspring just to name a few.

*rolls eyes*

on the subject the rap song wouldn't sound horrible if you got the right rapper,if you get some “bling-bling type” like Jay-Z or something then it is gonna definetly suck,I suggest Tech n9ne,the dude ripped the Halloween theme for the song “Psycho Bitch” and he made it sounded awesome,So if he had to do the GB theme he would totally make it rock.

It could be done by the Roots, they are rap but they have instrumental
or
Cake
Attaboy Skip
Incubus
Tenacious D

But Id totally go for Ray Parker just doing the song a little different. Ray could use the work.

That is true on the roots, but worst comes to worse it could be done by Insane Clown Posse.
