Hi All,

It has been quite some time since I have posted here. I would like to commend the mods for keeping this place together. If it weren't for them, this place wouldn't exist. Again, I am very much indebted for all of your hard work and I look forward to paying you all back in one way or another.

That said, I have finally updated the forum software. This will help cut down on spam. I have also pruned our users to get rid of the spam accounts. Basically, any user who had registered and did not yet post a message was deleted.

GBN has also been moved to a brand new server. Something which required a bit of code tweaking to do (as the site is a bit old and was written on an ancient version of PHP). I do have plans of revamping the site, but I do not yet know when that will be (hopefully soon).

Please let me know if you find any problems with the site. There are a few minor issues I am working on today, but everything should be in working order by the end of the day.

Chad didn't say replaced or upgraded, he said “updated”. PhpBB2 has gone through a total of 22 versions; I'm assuming it's probably been a while since the software was updated, and was running a much older version than PhpBB2.0.22. The latest version fixes a lot of security problems and such, though it's still not spambot proof without some hacks installed.

PhpBB3 would be an upgrade, but it's still in the Release Candidate stage. A few boards have already started using it, though, and so far it's proven spambot proof pretty much out of the box. A lot of webmasters (including Netsolo) aren't even going to give it much thought until the stable Gold (3.0.0) release, though.

I'd recommend Chad at least consider it.

yeah there was one porn spambot a minute ago that posted a porn link. One so far….I deleted it. Other than that, things have been pretty quiet thus far. Time will tell… (*winston)
