GBTVG narrative question

I dunno, I love GB:TVG just the way it is. It was a perfect blend of Ghostbusters and video games to me. As a lifelong fan of both, I don't think I'm just so happy to finally have another chapter that I would pretend something that isn't good really is just because. I know a bad game when I play one and I know a bad GB story when I get one. This game was neither. I already thought the cut scenes were pretty long for a game (not saying that like it's bad, just saying they seemed longer than most games I play) not to mention all of the in game dialogue. There was plenty of story and banter there, I don't know what else they could/should have fit in. I think most people just aren't properly taking that in-game stuff in as part of the story because GB:TVG is fairly unique in that a lot of the story progresses as you play, not just in little movies you watch in between when you play.

I especially don't think it's fair to compare GB:TVG to GTA4 for the reasons skanker listed, but not only that… GTA4 does not have the level of polish you claim it does IMO. There are things that did not reappear in the game from previous entries (character customization, some weapons, bicycles, tanks, skydiving, etc.), the graphics in the GTA series are always subpar (not to mention that if you wanna compare graphics, GB:TVG kicks GTA4's ass any day of the week), the hand-to-hand combat is awful and the shooting/cover system is not that much better. The GTA series is good and for every fault I just listed, there's probably five things I like about those games, but it's not gaming's Star Wars.

i had a formal suit for him on my list.

It was cut last minute to focus on other, more important things that needed attention.

now, all that being said, yes, the game has it's issues. I wish we had the time to fix all that.

I was working on credit screens similar to the movie (with the character doing stuff while their name is on screen), but was unable to deliver due to other priorities.

That would have been sooooo cool to see him in a formal suit during that sequence, but like I said, I understand that in the end it translates to a lot of extra work. I'm an concept artist myself, but I know enough people who work in the games industry to know what you guys have to go through to get a game out the door.

That said, I totally disagree that there is a sense of laziness here, of course it will always come down to what designers need to do to put a game out on time and what they want to include. However, my point was and is simply this; as games progressively move forward, costs go up, dev times get longer, and the games get prettier. Obviously there is a lot more focus on developing games with a strong narrative (avoid word ‘mature’) for systems like the 360 and PS3. Down the road, it would be nice to see more of a forethought to developing the characters and story when the player is not focused on something else. The Indiana Jones games are notorious for this, because it boils down to “Here's enough of the plot to tell you your next objective, now go do it”.

I just think it would have made a really good game great here. And if it's any consolation at all, I wholeheartedly believe the game is going to be better than the 3rd movie.

I dunno Skanker, a lot of people seem to critisize the littlest nit-picky things (not naming names, don't go getting offended people)

I would just personally like to say I love the work you guys have done, and appreciate the amount of time, effort, blood & sweat everyone involved put into the development of this game.

buahahaha!

seriously, don't assume until you know what really goes on behind the scenes.

and your belief is wrong.

hell, most of us wished we had more than 8 months to finish up the game.

You ask for more cut scenes then you say the game didn't need the last 8 months?

All of us were here until the final hour of the final day putting stuff in. Hell, you should see the list of stuff I didn't get to put in because we ran out of time.

Again, don't assume anything you know is correct until you get a clue as to how games are made.

Also, don't compare this game to GTA4. That's apples and oranges. GTA4 had well over 300 to 400 people working on it. We had roughly 70. GTA4's budget was also roughly 100 million dollars, this game was what, around 15 million?

Also, most of all the “interactive stuff” in the firehouse was cut to focus on more important things. I would think that a better game experience is what the majority of people want, not extra ambient animations in the firehouse.
The guy working on the Q-Bert game was hospitalized in the final week too. so yeah…

I think people just expected this game to never end. The game experience is roughly 4 times longer than the movies and the script is much much longer. It's the love for the franchise that makes people feel this way. The game isn't really that much shorter or longer than most linear games out there right now. It's something we're all going to have to get used to. The longer it takes to make a game, the shorter it will be. This is happening everywhere.

I accept the criticisms, everyone has their opinions and are entitled to them. I'm just happy that the game is being received positively.

Yes, I was talking to Staypuft. Like Skankers…I am glad the game is being well recieved…

Btw Skanks…whats the word on DLC?

I figured you were, but I wanted to be clear that I wasn't just tossing all this out without some idea of what the score really is.

I know it looks like I cheated, and you have to excuse all the scribbling out and stuff but my scorecard really does say I have 1 billion points…I think I win.
