I'm not sure why people keep referring to the “official” facebook page.(is it really an “Official” page, anyway?…)

Here's the link to the company that's actually releasing it. They handle this kind of thing all the time. smile

Not much info, but it does confrim that it IS worldwide. The only problem may be that you'll have to drive hours away to see it. I doubt it's getting the kind of re-release that ET, The Exorcist, Alien, etc received.

Funny how they use a photo from Ghostbusters 2 for that piece when it's about the original. Pretty cool that's it's releasing in theaters again, not sure if I'd spend money to see a movie I already have on DVD though.

It's totally worth it for the experience, if you ask me. When I recently saw it in theater it was incredible seeing it on the big screen again. Hearing everyone laugh at the right times, young kids seeing it for the first time, people clapping at the end, etc. It was amazing to see people still responding to it like it was a new movie. Not just GB nuts like us, but casual movie-goers who popped in for fun.

If what I saw was any kind of indication, the re-release should make great money…

Not worth it?!

I own Back to the Future on DVD, it didn't stop me from seeing it at my local cinema when it had that re-release last year. How often does the chance come up to see a classic 80s movie on the big screen? If Ghostbusters ends up coming to my local, I'll be sure to see it at least once.

Not worth it?!

I didn't say it's not worth the experience. I said I just probably wouldn't pay to see something I've seen already and can watch for free anytime I want. That's just me, I don't really like watching things in theaters when I know what's going to happen. And honestly, I hate going to theaters sometimes because the crowd inside can either be a bunch of idiots who can't keep their mouths shut, or people that actually decide to stay quiet. I'm just really neutral about it, no big deal.

I´d love to watch my fave movie on the big screen once again… But I think this re-release won´t made it on Mexico (not even in my town), so I´m planning my own screening on my city in October 31st. More info in a couple of weeks.

While I'm aware that others may have said different, I believe if you are lucky enough to be near a location to see to reshowing, you should. Currently, it looks like Matty isn't making the sales it needs and rumors are that the comic series isn't selling as good as hoped. If both cases are true, this may be one of the only ways left to show support to the Ghostbusters brand. It is not a high price to see these sort of budget re-releases and really why wouldn't you?!

Think about it, if there was a good gauge to see if making a third movie is worthwhile, this would be it. You were willing to build a $1000 proton pack… why on earth would you skip this?!

It was already pretty serious to begin with. Not sure if my local theater will play it or not though.

Not nearly as big as we thought, but still exciting nonetheless:

Commenting on the announcement, Rory Bruer, president, Worldwide Distribution for Sony Pictures, said, “We're delighted to be bringing Ghostbusters back to the big screen – this is a special celebration of the movie, giving the fans a chance to see it on the big screen in perfect digital presentation. As we head towards Halloween, we ain't afraid of no ghosts, but just the same, we're glad that everyone's favorite paranormal eliminators are on the case.”

The film was directed and produced by Ivan Reitman, with the screenplay written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, Ghostbusters stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, and Rick Moranis. The executive producer was Bernie Brillstein.

In Ghostbusters, University parapsychologists Dr. Peter Venkman (Murray), Dr. Raymond Stanz (Aykroyd) and Dr. Egon Spengler (Ramis) lose a research grant when their experiment methodology is proven to be bogus. The team decides to go into business for themselves and open ‘Ghostbusters,’ a ghost removal service. After struggling to get on their feet, they are summoned to investigate the strange happenings in Dana Barrett's (Weaver) Central Park West apartment. What they discover is that all Manhattan is being besieged by ghosts and other worldly demons through a portal in her building.
