*I'm listening to it/watching it as I write this, and it's actually entertaining, believe it or not…

*And it is pretty well researched, save for a few minor details…

*Cheers.

Thanks for the nice comments, what was funny is I've been on this message board since 2007 and I like to think most of my post's have been quite serious and not just spam, I just noticed this site on my bookmark list and thought oh I could post about it there, that's as much as I thought about it really.

I never thought for a second it would be controversial in anyway.

It isn't controversial, it's just a matter of how your project coworker was saying it wasn't a fan commentary when that's what it obviously is.

DV, he diddn't say he wasn't involved, he said “if I was not involved I am pretty sure I would like to hear something similar to this”, but he did specify at the begining that he was indeed involved.(*peter)

This is his first post in the topic:

Just thought I'd let you know that there is an DVD commentary for Ghostbusters 2 available from here:

http://www.dvdcommentaries.co.uk/commentariesavailable.htm

Hope you like it.

This is his second post in the topic:

It's just a fan commentary.

Neither of these say he is involved. In fact, you can tell he's purposely dancing around that fact. He does not directly reference his involvement until his 4th post in the topic, after his buddy came in and started annoying people.

Most of your posts? You only had 15 before this topic, lol.

Look, I don't have a problem with you, and its not that your commentary is controversial. Like Kingpin said, it has to do with your partner's attitude. That completely turned me off, as he came off as a fan trying to pump up his own ego by calling this project “professional” in an effort to make it seem better or grander than any other fan project, when it very well could have been just that with the effort that seems to have been put into it. Calling yourselves something you're not (professionals: in order for this to be a professional commentary on the movie, you need to have been involved in the production… otherwise, its a fan commentary, regardless of how professional the fans are) is just stupid. You don't need to pump your own egos. If its good, people will compliment you on your project. If its not, you'll get criticism. Calling yourselves professionals in an effort to get people to listen to it is just childish and unnecessary.

Make no mistake, my main beef here is with your partner and his holier than tho attitude with calling himself a professional. I don't like the fact that you tried to be misleading about being involved in the project from the beginning while trying to convince people to go listen to the commentary, but that's certainly not as bad as your friend here.

I wasn't trying to say I wasn't involved in the commentary for whatever reasons I didn't think it was worth mentioning, and my friend is really down to earth interesting how he as annoyed you, and even though I can kind of understand your point of view, it's not like we just turned up and plugged in a couple of microphones and said “Yeah Ghostbusters 2 is good” and that was that.

We have been fans ever since we were kids and since that time we have all been involved either in the industry, had books published, studied film and done extensive research on many different subjects including Ghostbusters.

So there is a professionalism to it, I honestly think even if I wasn't involved I would find this kind of commentary really interesting, I've heard plenty of worse commentary tracks on proper DVD's I can honestly say.

I would honestly love a few more people from here to listen to it and give there true frank opinion on it good or bad, yes I'll be the first to admit it might not be the best commentary track you'll ever hear but it isn't that bad either, apart from when I sing along to the songs ever now and then.

I know we have only done a handful of commentaries so far but I really thought Ghostbusters fans would be chuffed to hear a commentary for this film, fascinating how it's turned out really.

Its not just a ‘fan’ commentary guys, were kick-ass professionals man, ready to protect New York from the scum of the city….

Check out the ‘about the commentators’ section on the site…

Hey Egon, whats up?

Venkman_09;134802
if i wasn't a professional i would kick your ass, you've been covered in to much slime yo, think the negativity's gone to your head brother.

…is not down to earth.

Its great that you've been fans since you were kids. So has just about everyone on this site. We've all made several commentaries on the movies… in all these topics here on this message board. Just because you don't actually hear our voices, doesn't make this any less a commentary than what you've done. Its all about sharing research, opinions, favorites, etc. We don't go using our professions as attempts to make us seem more important though, which is what your friend has done.

Its not “fascinating” that this behavior has gotten this reaction. That's where you're confused, I think, too. The reaction to this is not to the commentary itself, but to the behavior displayed by your friend acting like his profession makes his commentary on the movie better than anyone else's. Had you guys come on and presented this as what it actually is, a fan commentary, rather than trying to say its an alternate commentary or a professional commentary, and also by not acting childish like your friend (not you), you wouldn't have received this reaction. Many people here don't have an appreciation for fan commentaries. In the same token, many people do. Had it been presented as such, plenty of people would've passed by and ignored it because they don't like fan commentaries. But you wouldn't have received the negativity you have for presenting it as something its not. Plenty of other people also would've taken the time to listen and given you genuine feedback had your friend not behaved the way he did. That kind of behavior is an instant red flag. Someone acting like they're better or more professional than others and that they're opinions deserve to be heard more than others won't get you far on this site.

I think he was trying to post in the style of the film, where the mood slime as affected everybody and we have come to save the day kind of thing, I think comedy especially on the internet can sometimes come across as being sarcastic or nasty when it doesn't mean to be. Like I kind of said before it's a shame if you think he is not a nice person when he is, so easy on the internet to sound different than you are in real life.

I'll take on board what you have said though and when I post on other forums or message boards I will just say, me and a few friends have done a commentary track check it out if you want too, always tricky when your involved in something to be objective.

Even myself sometimes I think oh these commentaries are quite cool and then other times I think why did I say that or do that, hopefully we will get better, I think all out points are valid we are just coming at it from different angles that's all.
