I totally agree. It's only in comparison to #1 that I find it not so good.

But by itself, it's a great movie.

I'll be honest here I like Ghostbusters 2 in a “It's ghostbusters so I like it for that” kinda way. Other than that it's not that good a movie IMO. Too much Louis , not to mention the Louis/Janine had no chemistry at all and seemed to awkward. They added more stuff to make it seem more kiddy IMO than 1st film like Bus driving Slimer. Too many questions are raised about events from 1st film to it and just go unanswered. The guy working for the mayor was a poor man's peck.

Also it ruined the ending of first film IMO. Ghostbusters out of business, Peter/Dana split up. It was like they went of their way to destroy the ending of first film.

Now people are saying “only when compared to the first film” So what? It is a sequel. It could have been so much better and should have. E.g Star wars look at episode IV and V. IV was great and V managed to improve that. Instead 2 feels like the difference between IV and episode I

I think this is going to be an ongoing debate forever. “whether GB2 is good or not”, my opinion, its a good movie.

Face it, the first is a classic, cant top a classic comedy. People always seem to compare GB to action/sci-fi franchises, (ie.Star Wars, Indy etc.), but GB is a comedy franchise, its hard to keep laughs just as ripe and the feel upbeat when doing a Comedy sequel. Comedy sequels usually beg for laughs, scrapping the bottom of the barrell for low level humor. GB2 never forces a laugh, unlike most Comedy sequels, which give eye-rolling one liners and bits.

it was well shot, had decent effects, well acted, fast paced, had some funny one-liners, and a decent story.

sure, it kept the same formula as the first film, and some of the character work was a little dull..

Louis, for example, hardly had any comic flare to his character like in the previous movie, save for a couple scenes and lines, in the first film you couldnt wait to see what goofy antics Louis/Clortho was doing.

the Dana/Pete relationship was a little too bittersweet and less cynical, the cynicism was what gave it the spark in the first film, but i geuss working some light Romantic Comedy in the mix gave the film's sarcastic deadpan humor some diversity.

For what it is, they did a good job, i havent seen any Comedy sequels that are as a solid effort as GB2 (try and think of some, maybe Christmas Vacation, but thats about it)

Overall, its a feel-good and entertaining movie.

I bet when GB3 rolls around, the debate will transcend to “which is better? GB2 or GB3?”

I know I'm in a minority here but I personally preferred the second one

I liked the second one.

I've never had as big of a problem with it as some. Probably the one thing I would've done different was the whole going out of business thing (seems to be the default story like for anything GB when the whole Ghost thing gets tired).

Other than that, I find it to be a very enjoyable movie.

I thought the sequel was quite good, and I always enjoy watching it and having a few laughs. The chemistry between all the actors were still there. The script was pretty good. The special effects were amazing. Though am I the only one who didn't really the proton packs streams in the court house scene? Maybe thats just me. It is not the best sequel ever made but it is a good film

Right. It would've been far better if the GBs had sort of slowly drifted off the radar and into being out of business over the course of those five years just for lack of ghosts, rather than the city and state government forcing them into semi-retirement.

Having said that, why do I suddenly get the feeling that the restrainment order was written into the script just for the sake of the courtroom sequence?

RE: Slimer388

In both films (and RGB), the only “comic flair” Louis had was in his nostrils.
