Ghostbusters and Nostalgia...

Every time I watch Ghostbusters or watch a behind the scenes shot from back in the late 80's, early 90's I can't help but think of how awesome it must have been to be on top like Bill, Dan, Harold, and Ernie must have been when these movies were at their highest peak as a pop-culture phenomena.

I think about the impact it has had on past, current, and inevitably the future, and I know the guys must have enjoyed the ride, but I kinda wish I could relive the initial buzz that their former star-power could have garnered. In today's society actors come and go, and especially when it comes to movies with similar subject matter.

However (as a child) the media buzz, the attention that people paid to this franchise was pretty astounding for a comedy. Sometimes I'd like to just go back in time and relive those moments…when it was still a fresh concept for everyone, I mean look where we are now…obviously these films have changed our lives in one way or another. Otherwise the majority of us wouldn't have come here.

Does anyone else wish that they could go back and see this movie again for the first time? I'm sure the premise sounds bizarre, but I would love to see this movie again the way I did when I was a child, when it was a new idea to everyone, and be as mesmerized as I was as I'm sure a lot of us were.

The very first time I saw Ghostbusters, I must've been 3 or 4 years old. My dad played it on VHS. Being little n' all, Elmer Bernstein's spooky theme started to freak me out. The library scene scared the hell outta me; I hid under the kitchen table as I could still see the tv from the railing. I'm not sure when I became a fan, it was probably a bit later or as the movie progressed.

GB always makes me hugely nostalgic. It was such a huge part of my childhood and life growing up and still is.

Hell the first Ghostbusters used to scare the crap out of me when I was 4 years old. Slimer rushing down the hallway, the librarian ghost and the terror dogs kept me up at night. XD

Left an impact on me, and it eventually grew into loving nostalgia.

I think October 10th, 2008 was the closest I'll ever get to seeing it in a movie theater. Knowing that it was 24 years later, with a completely new audience, made it even better.

As for me, I don't really have any kind of nostalgia for it in the strictest sense of the term. To me, it's a clever premise that draws on very old tropes while putting a new spin on them.

Y'know, I really can't remember how I came to know about the GB franchise. It just sort of…happened, I guess.

I think its actually very funny… I was a skittish child, and scared easily, of pretty much any movie I watched. I think Ghostbusters wasn't scary to me because they were the definition of anti-ghosts… They actually created their business solely to rid the world of ghosts… they were my heroes.

I definitely get nostalgic whenever I watch this movie or set up the new toys, or anything like that.
