ghostbusters as a tv show

I'd rather it be the New York Ghostbusters than some new team invented for the TV series… it seems silly to hear the reason ‘you can’t recast the originals' when it's already been done with good effect in The Real Ghostbusters.

Recasting characters for a Saturday Morning Cartoon Series is a little different…well at least from my point of vie. I mean first off it's a different medium. It just doesn't seem like it would be a good idea to recast them in a live action work…it'd be like recasting the team for GB3 from my point of view.

Nobody but Aykroyd, Murray, and Ramis as the original Ghostbusters in live action? I'm sure there are lot of JJ Abrams fans who would suggest that such a thing can, indeed, be done.

(Not an endorsement of the idea, mind you, but a bit of food for thought. And William Shatner has played a hell of a lot more hours as Kirk than Bill Murray has as Venkman)

The idea of recasting never really bothered me that much because it's practically always expected for a TV series of a movie. To me, as long as they do them justice (like The Real Ghostbusters actors) I'm fine with it.

There has been instances though where the actors portraying the originals in the TV series were just horrible, which is probably where a lot of the “don't want recast” comes from, because people are afraid they might ruin the character with there portrayal or not do them justice. Some people are just a little more flexible with recasting than others.

Not that I wouldn't rock to have the original guys back, but if a series did come and it wasn't the same actors, I'm not gonna immediately dismiss or not give it a chance because of that. And yeah, I'd rather have the same Ghostbuster characters than a new team lol.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is a good example of recasting working for the show.

I thought both Sarah & John connor were portrayed quite exellently on the show

but that's just me.

It could work.

Possibly.

You would have to either write out or recast Venkman and possibly, and I stress possibly, Spengler, as both are active with writing and directing, respectivly.

Now, Dan, Ernie, and Annie, they're really not up to that much, and all have had plenty of TV experience, with Dan doing “Sci-Factor” and “Soul Man” in the 90's, Annie having numerous TV roles, and Ernie now doing “OZ” and “Desperate Housewives”.

So in theory, yes it could work. But it would cost some mucho dinero to get all three PLUS halfway decent effects.

Ernie will also be a repeat appearance as a detective on Heroes

ya i was thinking that too here would be my plan have ernie hudson as one of the regulars on the show Remember how bill wanted to see winston as a full Ghostbuster in the 3rd movie this would be a great way after the third movie to show he is. dan bill and harold could make cameos and also dont forget that harold directed a few episodes of the office so i think it could work

If they could find a unique way of recasting the characters in the same fashion that Star Trek (2009) did then I would have as much of a problem with it.

You hit the name right on the head with the origin of my concern.

I will partly agree with you. The actress who played Sarah was great and did the character justices….I was not, however, that impressed with John.

I agree that recasting - when done right - can be very effective. The example that comes to mind for me is M*A*S*H. The only person who wasn't recast was Gary Burgoff (spelling is probably way off) as Radar. Granted Donald Sutherland's take on Hawkeye is different than Alan Alda's - but both worked for the medium they were in.

And I thought Terminator: TSCC was very well done. After seeing the special effects on that show, I have no doubt they could do it for a GB show.
