Rm2k (rpgmaker 2000) Is really easy once you learn the basics. There are chipsets and charsets. Chipsets are the background graphics and the environment (furniture, the ground, walls, etc) Charsets are the character graphics. Open it up, and there are 3 buttons, one is a green square with an arrow, one the same but blue, and the other yellow. The green is background, and the blue is foreground. Blue can overlap green, but not vice versa. The yellow square will make a grid over your map. If you double click somewhere on the grid, then a screen will come up. This is an event. In the white space, you can double click and a list of things will come up. You can create messages, switches, pictures, sounds, battles, and several other important things with events.
Another important button looks like a little white square with ‘writting on it’ ('the writing' is little black lines) Click it. It'll pull up the database. Here you can manage character statistics, system graphics and music, and all your variables and switches. Also it controls, enemies, items, weapons, animations, etc. One more thing is once you make your map using chipsets, to make a place where your character starts, right click a space and select ‘start party position’. Then click on the yellow arrow on the menu bar. This will run your game. For advanced use and trouble shooting, theres a helpfile you can download with RpgMaker2000. I hope this helps anybody that is starting with Rm2k!
