Ghostbusters: Displaced Aggression

Oh yeah I didn't mind the GB Manga book. At least it stayed within the GB movieverse. I might even put that above Legion slightly too.

The TokyoPop graphic novel, “Ghostbusted”, was a very good read, I thought (the art is something else entirely). While it had it had its darker elements, it never lost sight of one of the cardinal rules of a good Ghostbusters story: be FUN.

While “The Other Side” was preoccupied trying to be as “bad ass” as possible with gratuitous gore and hookers (it was about as “bad ass” as a 7th grader's fanfic), “Ghostbusted” made sure to keep the humor going strong and not letting the heavier elements overshadow what Ghostbusters REALLY is…a COMEDY.

I thoroughly enjoyed “Ghostbusted”, even if a lot of the art wasn't my cup of tea. I'd love to see more volumes in its vein, though IDW having the comic license makes that unlikely.

Wait…what? Only Aykroyd and Ramis write good Ghostbusters stories? I sure hope that's not what you meant, Ben.

Not at all. But I can understand how treacherous my remark sounded. By
Firstly, none of this stuff is being written by Dan and Harold.

I meant that these people won't neccesarily have the same sort of imagination of, or being able to mimick the style of Dan and Harold in expanding the universe… something which is being exhibited by some of the seemingly unneccesary references to Gozer and such.

However it doesn't mean that people aren't able to emulate or expand without immediately resorting to Gozer… the writers of The Real Ghostbusters and its comic did pretty well, as did Andrew Dabb and the writers of the manga (even though its last story had a Gozer tie-in). And then of course, there's the Omnibus Timeline writers.

Chronicles of Gozer was written before everyone else began to jump on the “bring back Gozer” bandwagon, and is more than adequately thought-out to justify his return… but I'm biased, of course.

Hope that clarifies it more, I meant you no disrespect.

I think they're pulling a Todd Mcfarlane.

They're making it so there is something Ghostbusters for every type of fan.

For people who Don't like the movies, they might like the comics.
If a parent likes the movies but the kid finds them too complicated, there is the cartoon. Then theres the Video Game.

Its pretty much what TM did with spawn in the sense that they'll make money off all the kinds of fans.

New art:

Now that's what the proton streams should look like… not those week, light blue and red streams in The Other Side, proper orange and blue streams of crackling energy!

I actually think the proton stream looks a little off… too thick, but definitely closer than The Other Side… I can chalk it up to it being the old time, steampunk equipment… Venkman probably has less control over the stream… that's my story anyway.

And the art is still fantastic. I'm loving this. Particularly that its pretty gruesome, with the axe chopping the zombie's head in half and maggots flying about… Pure awesomeness.

awesome stuff!! when is this coming out?? (sorry if it's already been said haha)

First issue is out in August.

A bit more from Ryall's blog:

In our upcoming GHOSTBUSTERS: DISPLACE AGGRESSION series starting in September, Greek artist Ilias Kyriasis (GALAXY QUEST) handles all the art and colors again, this time portraying the ‘Busters’ travels across time and space (and the intro of a new, female Ghostbuster) in the Scott Lobdell-penned tale. But in issue 4, he steps across the keyboard (there's got to be a better analogy than that) and writes a bonus back-up story, too. This one focuses on Janine and looks at her whereabouts. The art chores on that back-up are being handled by Ilias' countryman Mike Dialynas, who also provided the pin-up seen here.
