In 1984, the original team of New York City's Ghostbusters consisting of Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Raymond Stantz, Dr. Egon Spengler, and Mr. Winston Zeddmore saved the world from near destruction at the hands of Gozer the Traveler. Twenty-two years later, at the request of the Chairman of Ghostbusters Inc., Dr. Spengler, a new team of paranormal investigators was called to action to continue the fight against netherworldly evil.

This is their story…

Their memoirs and their plight…

No job is too big; no fee is too big.

They are Philadelphia's finest. They are Ghostbusters:…

About Us: Part 1

It all started around September 2003 when I wanted to join a fanfiction team. I wasn't so much a newb (was around in 2002 back in the “Classic” GBN days) but too naive to actually think any of the then big ones would accept me. My original idea, Florida Ghostbusters, had been nixed when I realized that I couldn't very well have a franchise take over a whole state (although, as proven by the Ghostbusters West Coast the following year, you can have a franchise encompass a certain area.), as well as my friends that had joined me decided to leave the project at the last minute. I decided then that I could go the other route and make up a franchise. I posted a thread with some ideas for a name. This is that thread and some of the then poll choices .

I did lean super-heavily towards Teen Ghostbusters and there still does exist two outlines of stories and a few promotional drawings made showing two guys and a girl fighting a monster. The only things that came out of it was that, whenever I get around to it, it provided a sense of background for my eventual Ghostbusters Doom Patrol character CJ London (even then my character had that odd surname ) and a villian named Adrik Thorsen, at that point more like Voldemort than the Ra's al Ghul personality I've made him out to be. Some elements may end up being used in a story outlining CJ's origin someday.

I can't really explain why I settled on the name “Doom Patrol”. Maybe it had to do with me just then getting into Morrison's run on the comic, or that I really liked how that name rolled off the tongue (although Rob, Mr No-Ghost to you all, has more than once told me of the innuendo involved with the initials DP ). It was Andrew, the first person I ever asked to join up, who backed me up on the name (he might not remember, but I do) and it would stick forevermore.

An example of how I attempted to get people to join up, in this PM from November 14, 2003 to Brian (ProtonPack666) Roig:

I'm really just beginning it, and thought you'd be perfect for it. The teams name is tenatively called Ghostbusters: Doom Patrol, and was wondering if you wanted to join up. So far, its only me, but I'm scouting around for others. I'm looking at at least four or five, which is a manageable number. Let me know by pming back, e-mail, or even im me at Beatleman22. Catch ya later

After our first story, Fritz caught on that more than 90% of the eventual lineup consisted of members who participated in the Wrestling Thread on GBN called Black Dawn (which gave us the title to our first story as well).

Andrew was the first person I asked. We didn't start off close, me and Andrew. We locked horns in a JSA vs. Ultimate X-Men thread and a Best Green Lantern poll on GBN. But we eventually found a common interest in wrestling thanks to the Wrestling Thread there and we talked a whole lot about stuff: comics and wrestling mostly (we still talk about that today!). His character in Doom Patrol is a slight exahggeration of his real life self from about a year or two ago (catch him online and ask him about the video he made of himself tombstoning his brother). At that time I wasn't as cocksure of myself as I am now, and mostly approached members of the Black Dawn thread for potential membership.

The original lineup included myself, Andrew, his friend Spencer (from the Digital Tachyon webforums) and Brian, but something happened and I ended up not using Spencer in the end. I can't remember if it was Andrew or Brian who made the next suggestion, but the best thing that could have happened next came in the form of Mr No-Ghost himself Robert “Statler” Smith. I was a little nervous asking him at first (after all, I'd seen a few pics of the guy and I thought he must have been one bad dude on the level of Holbrook) but I was immediatly swung by how cool this guy was. Like Andrew and Brian, I would have hung out with this cat in high school given the chance. Rob's joining up was a critical time in the crew's formation. We were all writers, but Rob was and still is the linker between us. Even back in the Black Dawn days he was the pseudo-leader of it all, and while I have a hard time of showing it I am often grateful of making his acquiantance.

Brian's coming into the story isn't complicated: I asked him, easy enough. Dunno what all he thought of the whole thing at first, but so far he's been a real trip. He's contributed on some important things regarding his character and has even done his share of writing.

These four would be the stable lineup from December 2003-January 2004 (coinciding with Rob's joining up). COMING SOON: Sarah and Erin's involvement, “Black Dawn”, “Till The Clouds Roll By”, the writing process and the NOMAD Controversy.

There was no more ghosts before or after EGB so Ghostbusters Inc. do not exist.

Even if it's the truth, I find it hard to believe all the ghosts just suddenly stopped appearing everywhere at any time…but I digress.

Stop by our myspace page, it has links to all our stories, as well as more information about the team.

Yehome, welcome to the board. Good to see more members from Belgium (I assume you meant ‘Belgium’ in your avatar).

Something you should know is that Doom Patrol subscribes to a specific area of writing that many other fictional Ghostbusters franchises have subscribed to: The Omnibus Timeline.

Within this, a fan by the name of Fritz Baugh has created a comprehensive compendium and universe… where almost all of the events in all of the Ghostbusters media are fact, complete canon.

Now, in regard to your post. It is true, that there was a ‘spectral drought’ before the Extreme Ghostbusters was formed… however there's nothing to say there weren't any ghosts after the series stopped running. In addition, Extreme Ghostbusters and The Real Ghostbusters were based in New York. Doom Patrol is based in Philadelphia.

It's realistic to think that while the spectral drought gripped Manhattan, it occured elsewhere… however it is also realistic that once New York received a new batch of ghosts… so did Philadelphia.

'Ghostbusters Inc', is actually something used in the films… in the context of the Omnibus Timeline, and the West End Games roleplay… it is the ‘official’ name of the Ghostbusters company. As such even if there were no ghosts around… there would still be Ghostbusters Inc. in one form or another.

However, even if they didn't subscribe to the Omnibus Timeline… there isn't anything that prohibits them from creating a universe where things happened a little differently… not all fics follow the Omnibus Timeline, and some pretty cool stories have come out of these groups. Please keep and open mind as there usually is a reason for a change or a deviation.

It's the unsubstantiated and inexplicable changes which you should watch out for.

That would be this:

And a version specially keyed to fan fictions written in that universe by myself and others:

And to actually be sorta on topic, here's my own laughably inept attempt to draw Doom Patrol

Looks good Mr. No-Ghost, look forward to reading future stories.

And yes, anyone who creates something Ghostbusters has the option of creating it in a slightly altered universe.

I think your pics are cool Fritz.

It's good to be loved isn't it? :-)

If anyone around here is familiar with Vincent Belmont (another well-known Ghosthead Original of the Community), he has been drawing his rendition of Ghostbusters: Doom Patrol. I must say, his vision of us is quite cool. Vince, as some of you may know, is a manga artist and is currently employed as a concept artist for an independent video game company (who's name escapes me at the moment). His pics will be posted on our website. When they're uploaded, I'll link his work here to the Doom Patrol thread for all to see in the Fan Art Gallery.

We're greatful to everyone who has taken an interest in DP over the years and for riding that train through all its glory and tribulation. The fun ain't over folks…far from it.

If anyone would like to make fan contributions to Doom Patrol's website, we welcome your talent with open arms. Art, stories, poetry, music, ect will be posted in the Fan Art Gallery.

Thanks folks and all the best.

Doom Patrol: Season 2!

Ladies and gentleman, I'm very proud to present this picture as it recognizes our newest and valued members of Ghostbusters: Doom Patrol. Much thanks goes to CJ for his remarkable imagination in bringing these characters to life in GB Fan Fiction and for providing me with the inspiration for this portrait.

Ms. Orla Wainwright (“Memories”)

Mr. Tim Bondo and his dog “The Bandit” (The Bondo Bandit)

Dr. Hideo “Hide” Tanaka

And on a side note, Vince Belmont also provided another bit of inspiration as it regards Brian. I added the egyptian eye shadow that he had rendered in his drawing of Dr. Brian Roig to this picture. We're definitely going to be keeping this as it adds a nice subtle subtext to the fact that he is a mage under the Order of Ra
