Ghostbusters en masse

Absolutely. Now that's something to concentrate efforts on…

Even if you set one or two rules, like:

Every time Egon says “There's a slim/only one/miniscule/etc. chance” something will succeed

Every time Peter hits on a woman

Every time someone gets slimed, twice if it's Peter

Every time Ray acts like a six-year-old

Every time Winston fixes the car, only to have it get trashed two scenes later

You'd still get pretty drunk by one or two episodes.

No, my point was if theaters actually went along with this idea where people would be obnoxious and be yelling things and doing things to make the movie “interactive”, how many of them would also still invest the time in screening the movie for regular audiences as well. So that it isn't someone's only option to see their favorite movie on the big screen by having to put up with people ruining the experience by trying to be “interactive”.

Oh, I think we must not worry about that; I don't think the concept will have a big success; it's good for a group of fans who search a new experience. If, in any ways, it does win some attention, the theaters will always keep rooms open for the general public who is interested only in discovering or watch the movie again. If it's not rooms, they'll fix the hours. (*winston)

I posted this on the previous version of this thread that no longer exists.

Down here people have done this will Lobster Man from Mars, Clue, Cannibal the Musical, and the ‘Buffy Once More With Feeling’ episode.

It would be something you would have to work out with the theater. It's certainly possible to set up multiple screenings. The theater that last showed it here did 2 back to back screenings three nights in a row.

There are only 2 35mm prints in circulation and 1 70mm in circulation. Last year there were the most requests to show the 1st movie since GB 2 came out. This year with the game coming out it looks like it's already doubled so it will may be hard to set up multiple screenings in the future, but all you have to do is ask.

That's true - the Rocky Horror show exists only to be an audience participation spectacle, whereas Ghostbusters doesn't need that - it will play on it's own. The only distinction where this might work, and has been pointed out earlier, is the difference between Ghostbusters playing as a midnight showings and Ghostbusters playing earlier in the evening. As we've seen this year, some theaters are bringing it in as a family movie (which plays early evening) while other bring it in and advertise it as a midnight, cult movie.

I'd like to see both of them in the theater sans audience participation before I could really offer any valuable advice to this.

I find every time I watch the movie, or the second one, with someone new they find different things funny than I do. I don't know if it's because I've seen it so many times that I tend to overlook the really funny and look for the funny stuff thats hidden (like Bill jumping over the halfdoor to run and see Dana).

I mean as fans, we are pretty well emersed and could spew quotes out left and right, but what does the average person remember?

True - it is a lot of fun just watching the movie with the audience. Really, the ideal way this could ever happen is if it was a deliberately organized and advertised event, like Jet mentioned (I would have love to have seen the Clue one, by the way.) In theory the theater could show it twice, with the late or midnight showing being the event.

Seeing it in theater really like seeing it again for the 1st time. There's stuff that people laugh at I never did and tons of things in the background I never noticed.

Now, a drinking game for the animated series… that would be fun.

Grife knows I felt like downing a bottle of NiQuil every time Dave Coulier called Slimer his “Little Buddy” or somesuch. And I don't even drink.
