Ghostbusters game, a technical look

I think UE3 is so ‘easy’ to modify and do so many different things with. I'm still suprised Lost Odyssey is made from it

And yes, sorry I did mean samey earlier. I think for that particular situation though, it was just to show them running in a set way, whereas later it gave them a chance to show off how they can run in lots of different directions. Perhaps I'm just a little too wishful in a game that people running around scared would be like GTA and they run in all directions. Although that in itself fails because the AI is pretty dumb and they run into things.

By the way, I LOVE how the shotgun/cannon type weapon has the bumper(the circluar pack on the pack, think I said the wrong part) opens out and the steam. Just such a creative idea for the packs that we know and love.

Judging a game on looks is a bad way to look at things - the world is filled with pretty games that don't measure up gameplay-wise. And just like movies, different games, mean different budgets. How that budget gets used depends on how smart the developer is. In this case, they (wisely, I might add) opted to build their physics engine from scratch - the end result is physics that acts exactly the way they want for this particular game.

As for the base engine, of course it got updated. That's what happens. More horsepower in the machine, more effects possible, more rendering tricks and options, means you get to update your engine. If they HADN'T changed it, then yes, it would be an old engine. You can't have it both ways - you can't have it updated AND it's old.

several good points. so far from what ive seen and read the gameplay seems pretty solid, and that terminal reality is really pulling out all the stops to try to make this game not only an authentic ghostbusters experience, but a fun play through as well. the graphics look fantastic to me and the physics engine is incredible. o'course the end result could end up being a horrific disaster … but i have faith that terminal reality can do it justice

I think it also needs to be noted that these screens and videos are alpha or beta build and not the finished product. Comparing the beta build of Ghostbusters to the final product of Gears is unfair.

That being said I hope the crowd effects are improved on by release. After the initial panic when Stay Puft appeared (in tech demo 3) everyone got into a straight line and ran like robots which looked pretty ridiculous however once again this is probably just because it was a tech demo of an unfinished game.

I think the character modeling is excellent so I am happy about that and it has been a common theme in games that better graphics don't necessarily make a better game. The story will be very strong because Aykroyd and Ramis are writing it so all of the things in the game will be in line with the GB universe. If someone else had suggested a boson dart or a dark matter generator these ideas may or may not have been accepted as GB canon but because it came from the men who created Ghostbusters there is no question it is canon. So by virtue of that the story will be entertaining and most importantly accepted by the fan base.

The physics look great and I can't wait to get my hands on the slime tether and just mess around with it. The destructible environments are impressive as well.

Overall I am pleased with how the game looks so far, I am not an expert on how video games work but I've played enough to know what I like and what I don't like and Ghostbusters has shown me a lot of stuff that I like.

I think the game looks good…its not the best looking game for sure, but looks are never really what I look for in a game. If it looks good cool, if it doesn't so what? as long as it makes up for that aspect with game play.

In a game like the ghostbusters, gameplay and the “fun” aspect is really what is needed more than looks.

I think an additional factor in terms of graphics is because people were spoiled by how beautiful Halo 3 looked when compared to the preceeding games.

I thought the character models were better done in H3 compared to previous title entries. But the rest of the game I thought look rather mundane with maybe one exception; That being the Infested High Charity…but even that was meh at times

They should stop and consider what happens when you get a large crowd together and they start panicking and “stampeding”. People get pushed over and trampled . . . it's not a pretty picture. Yeah, they definitely look like they're all taking a leisurely jog while screaming bloody murder. It's kind of funny, actually.

As for the debate about graphics being more important than the gameplay, I think GBVG is intended to be more of an interactive movie than anything else. A Ghostbusters game shouldn't be any more complex than running around zapping ghosts.

Indeed, nor does it need to be stunningly beautiful… these guys wear tan boiler suits, operate a car that's pushing 30 years old and live in a disused Firestation in what was a run down part of town… nothing particularly pretty about that.
