Ghostbusters a PS3 Exclusive in Australia
All other platforms and versions delayed.

Australia, May 6, 2009 - Off the back of Sony's Pause event last night, it was revealed that the anticipated Ghostbusters: The Video Game is going to be distributed by Sony Computer Entertainment Australia when it launches on PS2, PS3 and PSP on June 19.

As a direct consequence, Atari as confirmed to IGN this morning that all other versions of the game - Xbox 360, Wii, DS and PC - have been delayed until Spring in Australia - which equates to the September to November period.

According to a representative from Atari Australia, “The release of the Xbox 360, PC, Wii and Nintendo DS versions of Ghostbusters: The Video Game will launch across Europe and PAL regions in Spring 2009. More information regarding the release of Ghostbusters: The Video Game for Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, Wii and PC will be made available in due course by Atari Inc.”

Stick around on IGN for further developments.

Good video, cheered me up a bit.

I feel like Charlie Bucket when he finds out the 5th Golden Ticket is gone.

I traded in my PS3 with games and Got £190, pathetic

while I admire your resolve, I cannot actually fathom why you would trade the system that will still get the game on time in. If nothing else, you just lost money. Maybe I don't have enough protest spirit left in my rickety bones.

Late posting on this, many apologies, but I just wanted to say that I feel awful for PAL gamers at this point. I know I was mad as hell when I woke up this morning and saw the announcement, and even though I have -for now- dodged this particular bullet, it infuriates me what the so-called ‘console-wars’ have driven the industry to.

Sure exclusives have been around forever, and with so many consoles on the market (and so much money to be made) it stands to reason that companies push them so hard. Sadly, it is no longer fashionable to have scruples, and we're the ones that pay for it.

I originally had a long post for my stance on this, but I'm sure people are tired of the ranting by now. Let me just say this, Sony is not in a good spot right now, and they're still losing a lot of money on the PS3 and they're still not selling well. Blu-Ray won the format war, but DVD sales still eclipse them by a wide margin. By the time the PS3 is profitable Microsoft will have another system out and Nintendo probably will too.

What they did here doesn't make sense, but neither does having six different SKUs for one system, or constantly hyping games and services that don't exist (or won't for several years), hyping the hell out of features and then cutting them without notice, and constantly telling consumers and retailers to bite the bullet and invest in them because ‘eventually’ it will be worth it.

By the by, the PS3 launched at $600 for the 60gb version and $500 for the 20gb version in the states, and it was not uncommon for a blu-ray player to sell for upwards of $1000 in some stores which is why most people weren't too shocked by the PS3's first credible rumored price of $800. I didn't quote, because I'm not trying to call anyone out, just a small correction is all (please don't hurt me).

Hello, I've been lurking on this forum for quite a bit - ever since Activision canned the game last year.
I've decided to sign up to voice my disgust towards this move by Sony.

I can't say that I didn't expect it. The moment Sony got on board I almost immediately knew that they would have their greedy hands sliming (no pun intended) all over this game and screw us fans over. The second indicator that Sony would pull a stunt like this, was the decision to release the game next month, to coincide with the original film's anniversary.

I've been burned by Sony many times in the past, especially with their PS3, and have since then devoted myself to the Wii/360.

However after hearing this news now, I will say with all humility, that this is the FINAL straw.

We have all waited for this game to be released, only to be hit by delay after delay. I am not only saddened by the developers and Sony to go along with this tripe, but I am also severely disappointed to a point where I refuse to purchase this game, or anything with the SONY label on it.

Enough is enough.

I can assure you that Sony will do everything in their power to do the same for the US release. If they believe this move will benefit them, they are doing just the opposite in my case.
