Ghostbusters: Legion was it any good?

Spot on writing, involving story arc, brilliant art…but was put 6 feet under by massive mismanagement. The recent stuff can't touch Legion.

There's a link in these threads to download a copy of the series that zipped & the player to view it.

Legion was very enjoyable, story and art-wise. Draverhaven wasn't the best villain, but he was worthwhile if only because he gave us a chance to see Peter, Ray and Egon during their mythical college years. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but Legion was the first and only time we ever got to actually see them during that so-often-referenced era.

As for comparing it to The Other Side, well, that's hardly fair. The Other Side is one of the worst pieces of Ghostbusters fiction ever written. It's not really fair to compare anything to it except fanfiction written by a middle schooler.

As for Sebastian Clavet, well, the man is a scam artist and a professional oaf. I mean, even before he took the Legion hardcover preorder money and ran, he had done EXACTLY the same thing to people who had ordered his artbook, Transformers: Genesis (resulting in legal action from Hasbro, to which he counter-sued; dunno how that played out, though).

I'm glad we're free to discuss our grievences with Clavet, now. I remember when Legion was coming out, and Clavet was posting on the site, the mods were pretty strict about keeping negative opinion about his business practices off the board so as not to offend the “celebrity”.

Glad to see that law has been lifted.

How was Titan able to put this out in the UK in a TPB format?

the good thing is with legion is that you can pick up copies at some comic book stores here and there for a good price, also if you dont care about cover art you can pick up most of them on ebay for like 2-3 bucks. I woud highly recomend getting it before the new idw one comes out cause new stuff makes people want to buy more old stuff.

Titan has (had?) the Ghostbusters print licenses in the United Kingdom. Technicaly, their TPB was released for the UK market; it's just that a number where imported to the US because “our” collection was in the hands of a crook with no business sense.

Are there any threads that have interior images of Legion and the story about Winston's first bust?

Hola, I'm new…

…anyway, I just wanted to say that Legion is not only my favourite GB comic/graphic novel but my favourite of all time. It's not only got a great story but it's extremely witty. My favourite thing about it was how spot on the characters were, which is something I feel Tokyopop's Manga lacked.

Hey, all. I hate to be that guy, but I'm going to have to disagree. Legion was pretty bad. I despise the lack of continuity; I don't care HOW much you hate GB II, if it's official, it's official, and you can't decide it never happened for your comic book story, as these guys did. And what is up with it being set in the modern day? Cell phones? Cameron Diaz? Really? REALLY? That's just sloppy writing. It would be so easy to make it take place in the logical timeline. And as for characterization, they did a pretty poor job there. Ray is depressed throughout the series. How is that keeping to his character?

It had its positive points, too. However, this is by far a good Ghostbusters comic book. The best out there? Perhaps, but that is not saying much at all.

Well as much as I hate to say it, you are that guy. Most of us really enjoyed it. even more so now that the IDW series the Otherside has flopped. I think it safe to say that the legion series is the best Ghostbusters mini series comic to date.

Yes, you can. I cite IDW's Transformers: Infiltration as a good example. It makes use of the 1980s Transformers, but has effectively created its own continuity by not using the actual episodes of the 1980s cartoon as the basis for the chronology of events of the comic.

And as a end result, Infiltration and the arcs following it have been pretty cool.

No, it isn't. Again, Infiltration followed this, as has the new G.I.JOE comic (so I've heard, although I haven't read it) and a number of other things. Shifting it to the present isn't lazy writing, often it allows the writers and artists more freedom because they don't have to keep limiting themselves to the technological innovations and fashion of 1984.

It would be so easy to make it take place in the logical timeline. And as for characterization, they did a pretty poor job there. Ray is depressed throughout the series. How is that keeping to his character?

I don't feel you were really paying attention. He's depressed because he feels their contribution to science isn't being recognised… but after sorting out the issue with Draverhaven, at the end of the story he's back to being his old regular self.
