Minimates aren't done by Mattel (after all this is the Minimates thread)

No problem at all. After all these years of nothing, it's kind of nice to have multiple toy lines to mix-up.

They're like Lego minifigures, but a little bit bigger with greater posibility and detail.

Not exactly… they're more blocky, and whilst more poseable then a Lego Figure, don't have as much freedom as a normal action figure.
