Ghostbusters Reference Thread

Did I mention the Dexter's Laboratory reference yet?

Well…

In the episode, Dee Dee's fish dies, and she wants to flush it down the toilet but never gets around to it. So, the fish comes back as an evil spirit menacing the household. What does Dexter do? Why, he builds his own Proton Pack, even going so far as to say “Who ya gonna call?” when he puts it on.

Of course, it's not enough, and they finally resort to flushing the fish, getting rid of the evil spirit. (At least that's how I think the episode went; I only caught it in the middle, with the Ghostbusters reference.)

By the way, the reference gets 100 bonus points for the equipment actually taking the function of a Proton Pack (i.e. it actually captures ghosts rather than zapping them away), even if the Ghost Trap was contained in the backpack–but then, the trap section also had the “warning tape” pattern on the doors, so I can't take points off for that.

Another one I just thought of–I almost posted it yesterday, but it seems the board was down. Also, I'm trying not to burst out laughing while typing this.

This one comes from the Bobby's World episode “The Revenge of Dr. Noo”. It's about a horror movie featuring an evil scientist called Dr. Noo that terrifies the poor lad. That night, after seeing it, he has a dream in which he and Captain Squash (a superhero he likes) rescue a group of kids from the madman's dungeon. In this dream, he and Captain Squash are a pair of very Ghostbusters-ish paranormal exterminators, complete with Proton Packs–I use the term “Proton Pack” very lightly here. They destroy Dr. Noo by firing a substance called “limeade” at him–apparently the ghosts of evil scientists can't stand sweetness.

P.S. The dream sequence also made use of the “who ya gonna call?” catchphrase and a Ray Parker, Jr.-like theme tune.

There was a very minor GB reference on South Park tonight. I'll just say that it involved internet porn, Randy Marsh, and a lot of “ectoplasm” (hint, hint) all over the place…. It was frightening.

Last night's episode of Supernatural was called “Ghostfacers”. Not only was that a reference to GB but two main guest characters, who hosted the paranormal reality show “Ghostfacers”(ripping off Ghost Hunters of SCIFI Channel), were named after two of the GB, ala Ed Zeddmore and Harry Spangler.

“Ed Zeddmore”? That is awesome! “Big Ed” Zeddemore was the name of Winston's Dad in “The Brooklyn Triangle”. (*winston)

Ah, but can you claim a continuity triumph from it?

No. But it's still cool.
