A couple of years ago, there was a comedy tv show here in Mexico hosted by a great comedian, Memo Ríos (very known on Las Vegas night shows, and friend of mine BTW), and in the back, on the painting in the scenario, you can see a Ghostbuster catching a green ghost (Slimer?), here are a couple of pics.

On The Simpsons last night, they went to the olympics and had the “canadian director” start the ceremony - Ivan Reitman. “Who of course brought us Ghostbusters” Then as all of the countries are walking in, they play the GB theme song and repeat: "Who ya gonna call? " Not necessarily big, but definitely new.

Before answering, I have to say that your question has nothing to do with the purpose this topic is dedicated to, references to Ghostbusters.
There is no official explanation for what the yellow hose is for, like many of the items on the equipment belt. Most likely it was only put there to add a bit more detail to the suit.
A joke explanation, is that it feeds into something to deal with the problem of when a Ghostbuster needs to go to the toilet whilst on the job.
