Chris Ryall, Editor in Chief of IDW continues to play the tease with a cover shot of the post Past, Present & Future story arc, Tainted Love set for a February release.

A large version can be seen on on his blog, where you can get a better look at Winston's arm-mounted mini Proton Pack*.

Salgood Sam, who is responsible for the cover image, has also posted additional artwork at his Flickr account.

*I must say, I'm wholly impressed at his design illustrations for the “Proton Pack - Mark II”, where he's detailed where every named component of the standard Proton Packs are located in relation to the new design.

Personal opinion - But do not like the MKII's…Bionic Commando springs to mind, and while that type of apparatus is fine for that game, not digging it on the GB's…

It was a surprise… I was immediately reminded of the “Sexy Ghostbuster”'s miniature Proton Pack backpack when I saw it… but there's a bit of a nice symmetry to it all, as it sorta adapts the original design of the Proton ‘wands’ from the storyboards of the movie.

I can see someone being intrepid enough to build it.

This is going to be really cool or really stupid.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Interesting…

Its good to see that IDW is taking off with their Ghostbusters comic line.

And this seems like something totally new, and undone before.

I'll remain optimistic for now.

The problem I have always had with miniaturizing the proton packs is what’s the rationalization of keeping the standard larger and bulkier packs after it’s introduction. They would have to do some explaining in the story for me to stomach it; like say it’s a bugged experiment and then after it’s initial use, dump it cause it’s too dangerous…or something of the sort.

I had the same problem with the EGB proton packs.

GHOSTBUSTERS HOLIDAY SPECIAL: TAINTED LOVE

Written by Dara Naraghi, art by Salgood Sam, covers by Salgood Sam and Nick Runge.

Love is in the air‹literally!‹as Winston befriends an attractive woman with a ghostly problem in her apartment. But trapping the love-struck apparition proves to be more complicated than the Ghostbusters originally thought. Can Winston step up and save the day? Just how far will Peter go to find a date? And do Ray and Egon ever stop to think about girls, or is it always about trans-dimensional ectoplasmic anomolies with those two?

32 pages, $3.99.

Interesting, Winston's been given a huge logo on the back of his jumpsuit.
