Ghostbusters: The Other Side #2

I don't know if they'll go that route, having Venkman sort of meet up with them, as Venkman is in limbo sort of. I'm pretty sure he's somehow going to get rid of the ghost that's taken control of him, find his way back to his body, and then be the one to save the rest of the guys. That's my take at least.

Took a quick break and ran down to the comic shop and grabbed my copies, now I can leave straight from work to go read them.

Well, that'd be the only logical solution giving the guys current predicament, and strange, I could've sworn that at least in that preview that the guys were in the same place that Venkman's spirit was, maybe I was wrong, I dunno.

Boy, I sure could get used to this “product coming out on time” thing really quick.

Oh, I c wht u did thar. I'm glad to see what the guys look like dead (of course, thats pretty much a given given how the last comic ended), guess whatever you look like when you die is what you'll look like where ever you go when you die, at least that's what the preview of the second comic shows.

Nice call Jonathan, up until that last page, I didn't think that they were gonna see Venkman there, and I thought it was Winston coming through the crowd, but lo and behold, Peter saves the day!

Here's my review for The Other Side #2…

Story: 9.5/10
As with the first issue, I really enjoy this storyline. There were some more adult themes in this one, and they're really playing this dark, which I really like. Seeing the guys floating dead in a submerged Ecto-1 is certainly never an image I thought I'd see, and I love that they're taking a new direction with this. The purgatory aspect is interesting and the guys being chased down by the other ghosts to be sent to oblivion was pretty cool. There was again some cheesy/obvious dialog, but it definitely improved from the first issue. I really enjoyed this issue a lot and just kept turning the pages, excited to see what happened next.

Art: 7/10
Again, the issue suffers from some inconsistent art, but it tightened up from the first issue. The guys look a little different at some times throughout the story, and I still think Ray looks like a teenager, although there was a scene where I thought he looked a lot like Aykroyd (I think it was when Ray and Egon were sitting down after they had lost Winston). Winston is drawn perfectly though. Venkman, in his brief appearances, looked closer to the movie this time around… his hair looked kinda weird in the first one to me. Speaking of hair, I was hoping this would be touched up in subsequent issues, but when did Egon shave his head and replace his hair with a porcupine? I kid, I kid, haha. It does look kinda weird though. I will still say that I wish the cover artists did the whole issues, but that's just cuz I love the covers so much, not that I don't like Nguyen's art. These first 2 covers have just been amazing, the third one looks good, but not as good as these first two.

Overall: 9.5/10
This issue was just great. Comparitively to Issue #1, this would be leaps and bounds better, but Issue #1 had to establish how the characters are in this comic book world. Now that we've seen that, just as I expected with Issue #2, we're seeing much more story and jokes and the stuff that will hopefully keep us turning pages of Ghostbusters comics for many more issues.

Yo! That's my first reaction after reading this one: Yo! This is not your mother's ghostbusters - it is taking it to a darker level.

Like Dr. V, I thought both the story and the art were improved. Great cliff-hanger type ending too. I'm definately intregued as to where they're going with this.

Spoliers to Follow:

Story: Some good surprises and the dialogue was better. Ray bothered me at the beginning with actually enjoying being dead. I realize that if any of them would be more interested than upset, it would be Ray - but he seemed almost giddy. The “oh well, might was well enjoy it” attitude just didn't seem right. I am looking forward to getting more on Winston's back story in the next issue. Who is “Janelle”? I kind of expected them to meet back up with Venkman, but what a dramatic way to do it. One one hand - reaching down the throat of a demon to rip out its spinal cord seems over the top; on the other hand - how else would you stop a demon without a proton pack or other weapon of some kind? There's still no mention of Janine, Louis, or Dana. So I'm wondering if any will be weaved into the story at all. It's my guess that Janine and the possessed Venkman will have a run-in next issue.

Art: It seemed tighter to me - both lines and color. While the stylized guys still take a little getting used-to in places, like with the Manga, it's not such a big deal through this issue. The flight-suits still don't seem right. I still find myself lost in the adventure though, and not caught up on the small stuff. Admittedly, the cover still freaks me out. Also, I was hoping to see some new art for the next cover, but that's alright.

Overall: While it is darker, I'm enjoying it. I have no idea where they're going to go from here. Like it's been mentioned, Venkman will probably find some way back into his body - but the other bodies seem completely out of the picture. There would be much decomposition from the river by the time they make it back, but we shall see. It's very much a page turner. I found myself fighting over whether I wanted to slow down and take in all the art or keep turning pages to find out where the story was going. On this first run through, the story won. I'll go back for all the details in the art later.

Congrats to IDW for getting a Ghostbusters product out there on time and also very enjoyable. Keep 'em coming.

COMPLETELY agree with all of this.

LOL Yep, that's what I thought, they're in the same area that Venkman's spirit was at, most awesome, and I can't wait to get it. Yeah, can't wait to see how they deal with the bodies, and then there's the fact that the bullets are still in them, and their wounds as well, but remember, this is comic book, so, I'm sure liberties will be taken.

Need to get this, it definitly sounds better then the first one. Oh, hey Doc V, where did you see the cover for the third comic? So far I've only seen #1 and #2.

The cover for the 3rd one is at the end of the story. It says like “Next Issue” or something, and shows the cover, full page.

It was also one of the first preview images we saw of the new comic. It was originally thought that it would be an alternate cover to The Other Side #1, but it appears as though its the 3rd cover in actuality.

That's it.

Yeah, I thought that was a #1 cover as well. Odd that its the 3rd cover apparently, I guess that means either they get out of purgatory in that comic, or at the end of #2.

Well, I can tell you they don't get out at the end of #2, so its possible they get out in #3.
