Ghostbusters Video Games

I used to like the Genesis game, but looking back, it's not very Ghostbusters-ish, is it? I mean, you've got “busting ghosts” and all that, but it's kind of formulaic–too much of the “sidescroller” and “run-and-gun” genres. The endless jumping around is laughable to say the least, as is the fact that you have to climb ladders (!) in order to reach the various floors.

Still, the game did at least have some neat gags and set-pieces, like the conceit of a ghost causing a house fire that can't be put out!

The overall plot is great–the “missing stone tablet” thing–but it's also kind of contrived. And what's the deal with the weapons shop owner being your grandfather?!

It's a good game, but it's not a good Ghostbusters game–really, just plonk any old demon-fighting sorcerer into the game and you wouldn't change a thing!

GB2 for PC is pretty good and awesome though the Liberty level is hard as hell.

That's the one my vote goes to. Problem is that I just can't beat it. I can get passed the Liberty lvl fine at times, but the end does me in.

It's Followed closely by the New GB2 for Nintendo and the Genesis game.

Lately been playing the Ghostbusters cell phone game. Not the best game in the world (by a huge huge gigantic enormous margin), but it keeps me entertained and interested.

On another note, I should have been paying attention to things in forums all these years. Been lurking around GB sites since Bill Emkow's Ghostbusters Homepage was up and I just now decide to start posting frequently in places and hanging around sites. Of course, I'm only 21 now and that was 10-11 years ago when I started…

I must admit, my all time favourite GB game is definetly New Ghostbusters 2 for the SNES? or NES? the one where you'd pick two ghostbusters and trap various ghosts. It even had a cool “videogame” version of Flip City. Heh. I just loved that game.

Although the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) version was always fun, if only for the fact that I only managed to finish it once after a 7 or so hour stint at it.

Pretty cool seeing an off-model Firehouse and Ecto-1… quite fun seeing them with even stronger ties to their movie counterparts.

Control Panel:

*And there was apparently a “soundtrack” to this game, released under it's Japanese name - "Meikyuu Hunter G":

Polystar / Datam released a limited-edition soundtrack album for this game (Deco History Scene I : Data East Game Music Scene One - H25X-20008) on 25/09/1988.

*Cheers.

What do you mean? Because they're wearing gloves? Or the fact that Winston is missing just like the movie posters usually have? lol
