I have to be honest. I hate the character designs.

What is it that you don't like about them?

I just have to input the obligatory “I love Dan's art”

While I don't hate them, I find the designs somewhat off-putting. Wasn't sure how to explain why until I came across a post at the GB blog that explained it perfectly:

While very skilled and well done, the characters are a bit distracting because they look like the actors…but at the same time don’t. And by focusing more on the actors likeness and less on the character traits, the spirit is gone. Venkman lost his charm and charisma and now looks weathered and unfriendly. Stantz lost his boyish nature and pure heart. Winston no longer has the down to Earth, everyman sensability. Egon is the most accurate, if only because he is the most stylized.

Seems rather unfair to say they've lost all their character based soley on their appearance, it's the dialogue that helps you convince a character is who they're meant to be.

I agree. Actually, after giving IDW a chance the first few books I erased their Ghostbusters line from my pull list.

The action figures from MattyCollector.com are getting all my Ghostbusters cash right now because they are spot-on to what I consider perfection in collectibles, keeping the integrity and look.

No offense to the artist mainly because I can't draw that nice, but maybe this title isn't the greatest for his work. Venkman looks like the Joker to me.

I'm just not satisfied with the past several years' worth of products for Ghostbusters except the Ertl Ecto-1, Hotwheels Ecto-1, and MattyCollectors action figures.

I wish I could get behind these comics, though; the covers are awesome. I'm just finally tired for settling for anything to get something and being a fan who feels constantly let-down.

On the upside, this art looks better than anything else they've done so far with Ghostbusters.

Well, it came out today. Several comic shops in Dallas got it in, but none out here in Amarillo. Happy hunting guys.

For those like me who are trying to get all the variations, it appears that there are only 2 to get this time around: the regular cover of the guys in the pumpkin patch, and the RI which is Dapper Dan's alternative cover of Janine with the guys in the mirror.

Yup, got my e-mail from my comic shop that they're in. They usually set aside the RI for me, so here's hoping they did again.

OMG this comic is the best IDW has come out with yet…

the references that Dan has put in are fantastic (look for RGB Pete Venkman just for an example…)

I've always loved Dan's work, and this just fortifies that love

I passed on the last two holiday one-shots, but I may pick them up when I order this one.

I don't dislike the art, it's good work, but I'm still a little mixed on seeing the characters from the film universe depicted in this style. I hope the final comic wins me over. The Samhain aspect has me the most intrigued.
