Ok, so in the first movie….how did they do the whole eggs on the counter thing? Are they pressurized with air or what's going on?

Which part, where they popped out of the box or cooked on the counter?

By your mention of pressure, I'll go with the eggs popping.

It might be something as simple as that, one of the behind-the-scenes shots from Making Ghostbusters had a load of pipes… so maybe what they did was make a bunch of fake, breakable eggs with real yoke inside, and forced the yoke out with the aforementioned pressure.

That's just a guess, of course.

According to Making Ghostbusters:
Well in advance of photography, selected egg shells were scored with a small electric saw. Each cut was filled in with plaster, then sanded smooth and painted. During the scene, air was injected into the eggs from below, causing the shells to split along the scores and the contents to pop out onto the countertop –which was surfaced with teflon-coasted aluminum and heated from below with two propane burners.

What I always used to wonder was, if the counter was hot enough to fry eggs, why didn't the marshmallow bag/anything else melt? Now all is known, but that's still one of the neatest effects I've seen.

It's only half heated, you can see a slight difference between the tiles at the back of the counter and the “tiles” at the front. The ones which the box was actually sat on, as well as the ones the bag of Stay Puft Marshmallows were placed on weren't heated from beneath.

Y'see… Zuul had to pick one specific object to focus all of it's evil kinetic energy on to freak Dana out. That object was eggs. Zuul's earlier attempts at browning her celary and causing her milk to turn sour a week before it's expiration date just weren't working.

And now you know… the rest of the story… good day.
