The nightie looks like the top half of a Shalwar-Kameez, the Punjabi outfit many East Indian women wear. Because the slits on the sides of the top part of the outfit(The Shalwar) go all the way up to the hips, the baggy pants(The Kameez) were included for modesty.

That's kinda why I thought it was a little, “questionable”.
