The first season was pretty good. It was a little awkward (as most new shows are), but it had this great premise, wherein it felt like the cases were real. This was bolstered by the fact that you got two cases an episode and that they weren't waaaaaaay out there (like X-files).
One episode half, for example, dealt with people mysteriously teleporting across half the country (not as wild as aliens, but still very creepy). The cases were also from all around the world and in some cases were solved with non-paranormal explainations. It really stayed close to Aykroyd's interest in all sorts of paranormal phenomenon.
Then it went to hell. The producers (or someone) started to tinker with the show's structure. No more mini-cases, introduced Matt Frewer, gave it an X-files subplot about a goverment conspiracy, cut out Dan's openings (which sealed the “real” feel by giving it a docu-drama feel (similar to America's Most Wanted or the like).
So, if you can find the first 6 or so shows, watch them, they're neat, but forget the rest. Too many cooks…
