Gozer's return

Was anybody else disappointed that Gozer took a back seat to Ivo Shandor in the game? I've waited about 20 years for Gozer to make a return and to be told that he isn't as powerful as I always assumed was a pretty big bummer. Anybody else feel the same way?

Well judging by your username, I can tell that it was much more of a disappointment for you than it was for me.

I was glad that Shandor was in it and that they expanded on his backstory, but yeah I was a little disappointed. I've always thought of Gozer as the Ghostbusters ultimate adversary, especially in the movie universe. The idea that he's for some reason now doing the bidding (seemingly) of a guy who used to worship him didn't really sit well with me.

A lot with Gozer and Shandor somewhat confused me in this. I may have misunderstood, but didn't Shandor say that he set up the Mandala for Gozer, but decided to use it himself when the Ghostbusters beat him a second time? But since Gozer was going after Dr. Selwyn, it seems to imply that Shandor was already seeking to take the Destructor Form for himself before that second defeat. (*peter)

Exactly Vinz! A friend and I were discussing that very thing last night. It doesn't make a lot of sense. We surmised that the reason Stay Puft was looking for Illyssa was because he knew what Shandor was going to do if he failed and wanted to take Illyssa/kill her so that Shandor could not take control.

I agree.

The more you think about it the storyline doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I too always felt that Gozer was the big villain the GB had. Even in episodes of The Real Ghostbusters Gozer was always referred to as being the biggest ghost they ever faced.

I loved Shandor's appearance in the video game it was an obvious choice but him being able to surpass Gozer didn't sell me on the whole picture.

Still love the game!

Didn't Shandor say: Why worseship a god if you can be god yourself.
Gozer was destroyed so she is out of the picture.

It wasn't confused for me.

Also, I'm not sure how much more powerful Shandor became than Gozer. He still went down to some puny mortals with ray guns. I think the fear that the Ghostbusters felt is that they didn't have any idea what Shandor would have done had he made it into the living world. And I'm pretty sure that they had said that the second coming of Gozer was a weaker manifestation. To me, it only makes sense that after Gozer was taken down that Shandor would harvest that power for himself. And perhaps Gozer searching for Illyssa was necessary, they might still have needed Shandor blood for the whole process, it doesn't quite go into specifics there.

Technically you did… Gozer was still in the form of Stay Puft.
