Do you want a fully functional trap or not? Making props is hard I am 14 and it took 5 years to get parts for my pack and finished at 11:58 PM OCT 30!! That is cutting it close! If you are gonna build a trap like me now you needed to started a month a go. But these things work out plan a schedule to build your trap start by making sure you got your plans and reference photos for easy access next get your material and start building plan to have the primary part of the trap the “Carriage” done inside a 2-3 week period. Then start on the primary trap the thing that goes into the “Carrage” build the trap doors paint your done you will probably finish about a week befor Halloween.

These sites will help you……

They're not really that hard if you've got the time…they can be built from materials as simple as cardboard or foam, to the more complex ones made from wood or styreen sheeting, and up too fiberglass and metal.

I wouldn't recommend cardboard or foam though, if he wants it to be accurate and to last it's wood or better.

Don't tell me, tell him.

ace203, The easy way, the farmer way! Follow Norms plans if you're not concerned about accuracy. Just use his drawings and eyeball the thing. http://www.gbprops.com/ghosttraps/norm/

Now, if you want something with more bang and all the measurements you need, http://www.gbproject.com/plans/trap/index.html

On materials, work with what you have access too. Heck, ya might be able to pull it off in shop class. Don't be afraid to try stuff! Then again, don't kill yourself either! If'n you don't know how do use something, just ask somebody that does to show you how contraption x works!

I remember the first time I used a router…grade 8…making a cutting board….BAM! the cutting board went one way, chunks of shmuts and shrapnel the other!

Theeeen there was trade school, sanding away on a belt sander working on a metal doohickey because I got tired of welding v groves, when BAM! It got hung up on the belt sander, and went flying across the grinding room. It was somethin dramatic, unlike my brainwaves at that exact moment…think, “I am so smart, s-m-r-t! I mean s-m-a-r-t!” :-)

Then there was the time a lifting lug busted off–oh wait, that wasn't me.. HA!

Yeah, I guess the moral is to play safely Ace, and good luck man! Like anything, it just takes practice. The more ya build, the more ya pick up and the easier it becomes!

Last year in my shop class someone was on the belt sander/grinder with a
flat pice of wood and this was their first time using any power tool. The board flew through the air, hit the band saw just missing the teacher,
ricocheted off a table into a dust collector, got sucked and then made this cool noise like the enterprise going to warp speed and fired out of the dust
collector, flew outside into a dumpster for scrap wood. GOAL!!! He yelled and the whole class started laughing and the teacher didn't know what was going on. He had ear muffs on the whole time and the board came within an inch of hitting him in the head. That wasn't the first time that happened. We jammed stuff into the dust collector even the teacher does that it fires stuff out of the room like a cannon!

The first day of shop class he told us not to play with it. To demonstrate its power he stuck a baseball in it and shot out of the classroom and into the dumpster. The dumpster is just outside the classroom but he goes through it every now and again to see all the junk that people use to jam the dust collector. He got his board back without a scratch on it.
