Horror Movies

Master Spider
Besides the “It” or Salem's Lot series, and possibly Carrie or, no movie in the horror genre based on anything he's done has gotten rave critical reviews and is loved by many.

My dad actually caught Return to Salem's Lot on TV at one point and told me he had to turn it off after 5 minutes because it was so awful and it wasn't even basedon the book of Salem's Lot, lol. That's beside the point though. Actually, The Green Mile and The Shawshank Remdemption got rave critical reviews and those two follow the books extremely closely. It's just that I've read The Shining several times though, so to see what was done to it by Kubrick (storywise cause yes Nicholson was great in it) was like being suckered punched if your a big Stephen King fan like I am. That aside though I will try and be a little more nice to Kubrick's verison of The Shining

And I do know that both those movies are awesome. Had I not pointed out horror, I would've lost right there. Let's not forget Stand By Me.

Anyway, thanks for being nicer to it, haha…

*smacks her forehead*D'oh! Missed that part about the horror genre, lol. Cause yes Stand By Me was also another good one. I also loved Apt Pupil with Brad Renfro and Ian McKellen(sp?). I do believe that could be labeled as horror since McKellen's character plays a former Nazi (and the Holocaust was pretty horrifying) who Renfro tries blackmailing when he finds out. And your welcome about me being nicer to Kubrick's version of The Shining. If I should ever get out of hand with my comments towards it please feel free to knock some sense back into me :-) , lol.

just for those who want a good horror film that isnt just about horror. it actually has a story to it, a little adventure, comedy and drama (such a rare thing indeed).

since im in a claudia mood, heres a few quotes.

“Snatching me from mortal hands like two grim monsters in a nightmare fairly tale, you idle, blind parents! Fathers!” She spat the word. “Let tears gather in your eyes. You haven't tears enough for what you've done to me.” (book–slightly altered in movie)

“Locked together in hatred. But I can't hate you Louis. Louis my love, I was mortal to you. You gave me your immortal kiss you became my mother, and my father, and so I'm yours forever. But now it's time to end it, Louis. Now it's time to leave him.”

“And it means something else too, doesn't it? I shall never ever grow up.”

“Goodnight sweet prince, may flights of devils wing you to your rest.”

“I came to make peace with you, even though you are the father of lies.”

when i was 8 years old i was at a sleep over. we saw IT followed by child's play. nonetheless, im to this day scared silly by both of them.

evil clowns and dolls in one night is too much for an 8 year old. im still traumatized by the experience.

pennywise and chucky can go to hell….again!

I would like to believe that Salem's Lot was probably much better than the new Carrie they put out. Both the movie and boook of the Lot are scary as all hell. Pointlessly, King does not want to be considered a “scary movie writer” all that much, just one that spooks you. Why else would he want his movies to based so closely to the books? The Shining, Carrie, Sleepwalkers, and Salem's Lot were really good horror movies, but in the books you have more dynamics going on that I can't really bring to mind.

Event Horizon

A starship that travels into the bowels of hell and becomes possessed, then causes its crew to go insane. The only movie that's really freaked me out, and still can give me the eebie-jeebies today. Not that cheap “BOO!! Scared ya!” crap like The Ring.

I got to say in the Ring's defense that they pulled that off nicely. No real blood and gore, just old fashioned chills and thrills. It's a real good throwback to the Universal motif from the Thirties of using the so called “cheap thrills” and coming out with a real good movie.
