I was quite chuffed yesterday morning, I'd seen a Ecto-1/Delorean two pack on eBay, dropped a bid in for the hell of it, not expecting to win… and Monday morning I found out I'd won it. Was a nice start to the day, the post brought even more coolness I don't need to go into.

i like the hot wheels E1….the fact that they have the ladder and the hoses on both sides of the car is great…something that Johnny lighting didnt do…..the only thing that i say is a bummer is the fact that they didnt put the logo on the back of the car……..but owell at least we have a hot wheel car……..TAKE THAT BTTF!!!! haha …..wait and TMNT!!! hahaha

Technically, BTTF did get a hot wheels car. It was only released in Japan as part of the CharaWheels line (including KITT and Speed Racer). They did a different release for all 3 BTTF movies. . They were really detailed and looked better than the JL cars. I've got one of the Part I cars, but couldn't ever get Parts II and III here in the states for a reasonable price.

And while Hot Wheels has stated they will probably not release the Ecto-1 as a 99 cent car again, they were hoping to do a more detailed release at a higher price - which would certainly be fine with me.

A larger scale release with interchangeable parts would be absolutely awesome!

Glad to help out with the info. Wish I had a pic handy, because the Japan release really does look amazing. It's just one of the weird things that I've collected

Finally got a Hot Wheels Ecto-1 at my local Wal-Mart…

huzzah!

I just searched a Wal-Mart, and there wasn't an ECTO-1. I swear that stores around New England, in general, have less selection compared to other places. When I go to Arizona and check the Wal-Marts for Hot Wheels, the selections there put the Wal-Marts around here to shame.

I GOT ONE!

It was so unexpected. I was just instant messaging a family member who lives out of state about how I wasn't finding an ECTO-1 Hot Wheels car, and I asked if she had seen the car in her area. Then she told me that the person who works a department which sales Hot Wheels at her workplace had been on vacation. And while she was filling in for the person on vacation, she saw the ECTO-1, and put it aside, then later bought it for me. And all this happened about 6 weeks ago. I basically had the car all along and didn't even know it, amazing.

Now I just need to wait a few more weeks till her and my brother meet in Arizona for a wedding event that they're both going to. Then she'll give the car to him and he'll bring it back to me!

I was able to find 2 now. Not sure what this is worth to anyone else… but there is a variation. Not on the car… but on the card. The Ecto 1 has been released on a domestic cardboard backing and an international cardboard backing. All this means is the warnings on the front of the card and the writing on the back has english, french and another language I believe. Also… the # on the cards are different as the international line and US lines are different. I really only know this because I'm also a hotwheels collector.

Figured I'd throw that tidbit out there in case anyone wanted to have both versions for their collections. The international release is mainly found in Canada… but is also found at some supermarkets.

There is a 3rd release that recently came out on a short card. The cardboard backing is 1/2 the size of the one currently being found. So that makes 3 cardboard variations but zero ecto 1 variations so far. Knowing hotwheels… they might change something about the car to keep the casting moving… different wheels, different color glass, different color interior, etc.
