I'm pretty sure that's what batman2 was trying to say, that it was “so shotty” that he can't handle paying for another “inferior” product

Does anyone remember the RGB Ecto-1 toy? It was so innacurate from the Ecto it must have made you people cry.

Why can't you people just say “Yay! They're acknowledging our fanbase!” and live with it?

Ep, I think you're right. I reread his post again, my bad.

The 1/21 diecast gets deep under my skin because it's been used as a reference to make further E1 related merchandise. If it was just a one time deal, it wouldn't bother me so much.

I really like the Hot Wheels E1 for what it is.
I have no problems with the RGB E1 for what it is.
There was a super deformed E1 die-cast a while back that I really liked for what it was (and I'd still like to find one for myself).
The 1/21 diecast however failed pretty hard at what it is, and that failure has been infecting other products.

Yes, people can be too nitpicky. But at the same time you shouldn't just except everything that bares a GB logo, because it potentially damages the brand by leading to steadily inferior products (or would you like to see a resurgence of GB shaving kits for kids).

In the case of the Hot Wheels car, I think its perfect considering it's scale, price range, and set limitations due to the toy's primary age group (in fact I'd say that it exceeds my expectations).

I understand not wanting the Ghostbusters Shaving Kit to resurrface, but being anal retentive about items such as the Ectos mentioned (including the 1:21 ERTL) is just silly. They are close. perfect? no. But that's just being crazy to expect “perfection”. I see it with the mattel figures and art asylum minis too.

I had one of those shaving kits. I also had the official Ghostbusters mouthwash and Slimer toothpaste. No ghost was going to get me in the bathroom. (Where a surprising number of paranormal incidents occur!)

Well, there's extremes on both sides, and neither is good for the franchise.

Speaking for myself, I don't expect perfection (even though I am a perfectionist).

To me the 1:21 die-cast simply isn't a good representation of the E1 considering what the product is, and it's scale. It's not even all that great of a representation of a 59 Cadillac (which is even less excusable). It's a visibly rushed and sloppy product from bumper to bumper.

Considering that it's not even an E1, but an E1 1A hybrid, I don't think my particular opinion can honestly be considered all that anal.(*winston)

m'eh, I guess I'm just not that picky

it just irks me that people complain about something that 10 years ago was thought to be a dead franchise.

Love it or hate it, it is only .99

The package will also include a Ecto graphic

(For example)

Here is a conversation with a collector and Mattel employee regarding the Ecto.

Excel_aratorin Speed: Is there going to be a Ghost Busters New Model for 2010?

HWC ChrisB: Yes. It looks really good. It also has a lot of room for increased decoration and paint upgrades… maybe RLC in the future.

RLC (Red Line Club Only) is a premium Hot Wheel car with wheel, paint, and base upgrades at the 20.00 price point. Usually limited to 2,000-10,000 pieces. Must be registered on hotwheelscollectors.com to purchase.

I'm a BIG ecto freak (as some of you know) and I could careless about the flaws.. Just be happy that Mattel got the rights to Ghostbusters cause it will be the first time in a LONG time I would see Gbs in a toy section thats not a Toys R' Us exclusive.

Also Mattel (Owner of Hot Wheels) does make 1:18 scale cars, so maybe there testing the market.

Just be happy Sony is allowing the license to be out there and they know better then the mistakes Columbia did for Gb2… atleast I hope they do.

I've got to throw in with Ecto-Collector here - some perspective needs to be maintained by some people.

Hot Wheels is the cheapest (meaning inexpensive) toy car brand - any cheaper, and you're buying no-name knock-offs at the dollar store.

To be that cheap, a lot has to go away - like the detail on the roof rack, some of the decals, etc.

Hot Wheels aren't for hardcore collectors - they're for kids, casual collectors, and hardcore collectors of all things Hot Wheels.

If you you've got the spare energy to get worked up over a two-buck toy, go for it, but it seems a waste to me.
