it could be more iconic and nostalgic if they did the same vehicle the ghostbusters used..

Huh? It is the same vehicle the Ghostbusters used. (*winston)

I'm tempted to call my local Kmart on the phone to ask if they have this Hot Wheels car. Not sure if that's something they could help me with, but I would hate to go there and not find it.

I'm sure people call stores to check if an item is in stock, maybe not for something as small as a Hot Wheels car, but it shouldn't be a problem.

Instead, ask if they have received Hot Wheels case code E or F the Ecto should be in either of those cases.

The left >actually I misspoke, its the right side. if you're sitting inside that is< (long side) tank on the Ecto-1 is green, I'm wondering if people mis-remember it as yellow because both tanks were yellow in RGB.

Hmm. Sure about that? Unless I'm completely colorblind, this screenshot definitely shows it is not green. I guess it's not pure yellow either. Kind of a pale, faded yellow, but yellow nonetheless. Possibly with like 2% green, so technically “yellow-green”? I'd call that yellow though…

I believe this is the renovated Ecto-1, right?, and it does show the tank as lime green. Maybe this is where you got the idea? And maybe what they based that artwork on.

Don't get me wrong, I'm totally accepting of the lime green version and maybe even like it better. But the “original” Ecto-1, as far as I can judge is (pale) yellow.

Yeah, in RGB they were both clearly bright yellow. I'm sure that basing countless drawings off that color scheme would cause me to remember it as yellow, regardless of any film version. If you do a google search though you can see that almost every single merchandise/toy Ecto-1 colors it bright yellow as well. The Hallmark version for instance.

The subject of discussion actually came up at Proptopia last year. You're correct in your assumption that that is the real Ecto-1, post expensive restoration.

I came to the conclusion that the tank was closer to lime-green than yellow partly due to the pre-restoration (of any kind) photos of the car on GBFans:

The third is by far the best in showing that the long tank isn't the same colour as the two smaller ones. Finally, there's these shots from the first movie:

Even keeping in mind the discolouration noted in the 1999 DVD release, a behind-the-scenes photo of Ecto-1 in LA23 shows a similar khaki-ish colour, rather than yellow (Keep in mind when this image was first saved it was accidentally mirrored on Ghostbusters.com):

As for the ornament, that was based on the large diecast Ecto-1, which sadly was not built with a very strong attempt to make it completely accurate… I imagine they assumed it was yellow, which was why they painted it so.

ok guys i have somthing to tell you. in the world of collecting today HW collecters are considered the scum of collecting. they rip open packages, bribe store employe, bend up packages on good cars so others wont want them, etc…. I want to let you know that whn a car like this comes out they will be all over it, its like when they released the 60's batmobile, scalper heavon it was. if you see the car buy it and dont look back, i would suggest going to targets/walmarts/etc right when they open or when they close for restocking purposes. mak a freind at the store who can check it out for you.

hope this helps you guys. and no im not exaggerating, HW is one of the toughest collecters markets there is.

In the same vein, don't break down and resort to eBay, because then you're paying the scalper.
