i think its going on like this:
ray and egon have a little chat about that the new eqquipment is to dangerous to test it themselves!
this chat gets interupted by a guy whos entering the firehouse with the line:
ahhm, im now to the town, ahhm…and im looking for a job, ahhm and so!
the two gbs looks at each other and say something like this:
ahh right, u are a lucky guy! we have a free position as an … ahh… experimental, ahh…eqiupment,……….ahhhhhhh technicken! lets introduce u to the stuff!

I personally saw a scene in my mind in which you see the rookie walk up to the fire house door which the sign “Help wanted.” He looks up and sees the Ghostbusters sign and walks in.

Janine is talking on the phone to the Sedwick hotel, but we don't know this yet. Ray and Egon come from the back

Ray: “We need someone to test out the new stuff”
Egon: “Yes but who?”

Janine: “This guy would like a job”

*Egon and Ray smile*

Ray: “Perfect, we could use an extra hand”

Janine: “Also, The Sedwick Hotel called, seems Slimer is back at the hotel”

Ray: “Hey Peter. The ugly little spud is back at the hotel, come with us.”

Peter: “Oh goodie”

Ray: “Come on New Guy, this is your first test. Peter will show you the ropes”

Peter: “Oh great, why do I have to get stuck with the new guy?”

*you do the first mission*

Ray: “You did well out there kid, I think you are perfect to test out our new equipment.”

Peter: “Why does this mook get to test out the new stuff?”

lol, well actually that is my fault, but that is not how it opens up. I worded myself weird. I am not sure how it opens in fact, but it could work.
