This is directed at those born between 1975 and whatever the minimum age to be on this board is.

How has the movie changed for you over the years?

For me… It was a scary cool horror film when i was 3-5, It was a cool ghost trapping film when i was 5-13, and when i came into the true age of reason.. it was an intelligent and well written comedy with a subversive tone.

I never appreciated Venkmen when i was little. I was always a BIG Egon fan. Then overtime Ray and Venkman won me over. Although Egon is still awesome. “ Lets see what happens when we take away the puppy.”

Ive gone three halloweens as a kid as a ghostbuster. Grown up last halloween i went as a headcrab zombie… and got accosted ( in a friendly way ) by a Ghostbuster at a party.

I used to be attracted to Dana Barret…. now I kinda have it for Pete Venkman… and now because of it… i dislike Dana. Cause PETE IS MINE!!!!

@_@

Okay.. well thats how the movies and the fandom changed for me growing up… how about you?

I definitely grew to have a much higher appreciation for the jokes (as I didn't understand a lot of them when I was younger). “We get this guy laid we won't have any trouble.” “Dickless.” etc.

It will always be one of my favorite movies, for sure.

Didn't switch from being attracted from Dana to Pete though… I still think Dana is actually kind of annoying, and not overly hot.

Well, when I was a kid, I was crazy about Ghostbusters. It was my Grandpa that introduced me to the franchise. The movies were scarey to me sometimes, but I loved the Proton Packs and the ghosts.

I watched re-runs of “The Real Ghostbusters” and “Extreme Ghostbusters” waaaaaaay back. I loved them so much that my parents recorded every episode of them at the same time recording… Teletubbies….

But my love for Ghostbusters did'nt end there. My parents got me an EGB Proton Pack and EGB toys. They even somehow managed to get me a toy ECTO-1 and the Firehouse. But it was'nt long until I used my NES (the only video game system we had) as a Ghost Trap. I stuck a green scarf in the port where you stick the video games in and I flung it around my house. And then I broke it.

Ray was my all time favorite. Now when I was a kid, I thought that Dana reminded me of my Grandma. I was never attracted to her. And I never will. I was very confused when Gozer shown up. I got her mixed up with Janine, so I thought that Janine became Gozer. Boy, was I a stupid kid! :-)

I agree with all of you.

Ray was also my favorite. He seems like a big kid rather than an adult because of his fascination with the ghost and such.

I like GB II as well and I used to think it was better than GB I at least when I was a kid because more stuff happened, but as I grew older I see how GB I is far superior.

I had a proton pack and PKE Meter and Ghost Trap and all the other toys.

I even had a pole on my treehouse….

GB II was awesome when i was a kid… Now… i just cant get over how bad Janine's haircut was.

I had a Sega Genesis back in the day ( And an SNES and NES and well.. a lot of consoles ) and enjoyed the Ghostbusters game on it.

When i was 15 or so, I got my then at the time boyfriend into Ghostbusters. He actually tracked down the Ghostbusters International RPG. ( His dad owned a gaming and hobby shop ). We got a group of friends together and ran a 2 month long campaign. It was one of my favorite things i ever did with friends.

I have my own copies of GBI these days. But i cant convince any friends online or off to play.

Thats what i miss about my childhood. I used to be able to get friends into Ghostbusters, but now it seems that im the only one i know who continued being a fan.

Cause when i was 7.. everyone loved Ghostbusters. At least in my world.

I grew up with the cartoon and the RGB toys, I didn't like the movie that much when I was around 6, Eleanor Twitty scared and so did the scene where Dana opens the fridge.
I must admit I did not get half the jokes in the movie, I mostly loved the busting scenes.

Ray was my life hero. Seriously. I would sit there and watch it till I learned every line, every breath they took, the exact rhythm when the Soclari Bros took out the chairs in the court room.

Not to mention I always love playing with the Ecto-1, driving down the street and replicating it's legendary Siren. I didn't understand the film till I got a little bit older, learning about themes and imagery. Then I was like OH.. Now I get it.

Then I got the DVD (the slime green version cause I missed out on the 1st release), then I could finally watch the subtitles of the lines each and everyone spoke.

The movie itself wasn't that scary, as my mom did take me to watch Aliens when it came out. Although rated R film, I still got to see it. It wasn't that scary lol. But I guess if you were to compare the scare factor of both movies, Aliens would take it.

ok I've rambled too far lol.

I still remember the first time i watched Ghostbusters.

I was probably 5 or 6, but i was at my Grandma's house for Halloween all day. So, we decided to rent some movies for me to watch (my first ‘scary’ movies ever) so the three movies i got were:

Ghostbusters, Ernest Scared Stupid, and The Monster Squad.

to this day, those three movies are STILL some of my all time favorites (GB obviously being #1).

Ray was my favorite and still is. I also really liked Peter and Winston a lot.

Egon i wasn't too big a fan of movie-wise, but he was my favorite from the cartoon.

When i watched it for the first time, The Library scene and Slimer were the two scenes that stuck in my head the most.

I watched the movies religiously as a kid, and absorbed the reruns of the cartoon whenever possible. Then, nothing for a long time until just this last year when I stumbled upon Ghostbusters on DVD for sale. Remembering how much i loved that movie as a kid, I bought (and Ernest and Monster Squad) and the rest, as they say, is history.

It's still the only movie i bought on DVD then bought it again when the special edition came out (the slime green one with GB 2).

Ghostbusters, Ernest Scared Stupid, and The Monster Squad.

Oh man, i'm gonna have to look for Ernest Scared Stupid. I absolutely loved that film when I was little, think I managed to wear the recording we had of it out. Eeesh. I'm guessing I won't enjoy it as much…but we'll see.

Back on topic, Ghostbusters was always my favourite thing. My parents always seem to laugh when they see a reference to Ghostbusters on TV and always look at me for some kind of reaction (it's normally just a smile nowadays). I got into Ghostbusters by watching The Real Ghostbusters cartoons when I was a wee little boy…of maybe 3 or 4. Then I remember my parents got me the Ghostbusters I and II video (both back to back) which I watched over and over. I never found it scary, I just loved the busting and the ghosts and all of it. Then, as I got older the jokes made more sense, and now as I'm in my twenties I'm able to recite all the lines (which irritates anybody watching with me) and all of the jokes finally make sense and I'm STILL seeing little things i've never seen before. Plus I got to see it at the cinema a few Halloweenses…halloweenie….hallow…a few years ago at Halloween and it was just an awesome experience.

I would continue to write about how I had all the toys but i've rambled enough and I need to sleep and nobody wants to listen to a guy sat alone on a laptop ramble about his life. Hah.

I loved it as a kid and I thought the movies were based off the comics and cartoon. As I got older, I was finally able to watch the uncut, unedited version my parents made for me (they cut out the scene with Ray dreaming about the ghost lady… and it was taped after a Winnie the Pooh special so all the bad words were gone). I've grown to really appreciate the nuances in it.

I watched Ghostbusters 2 in the theater gripping my seat so I wouldn't run away (I ran out of the Bear, E.T., and Bambi) and it was the first “scary” movie I made it through. I think I got the “this is not real” speech for the first time from the parents after the movie. Now, I laugh at my wife and other people who are scared in scary movies.

I had ALL the toys growing up because dinosaurs and Ghostbusters are all I wanted. I gave them all away to a kid in 6th grade (d'oh) that I thought could use them (he was in Kindergarten). So I guess it wasn't so bad.

Now, I'm waiting for the game and future RGB DVD volumes to come out (I'm stopping when the volumes switch over to the Full House guy doing the voice of Peter).

A couple of things haven't changed: Ghostbusters is still my sacred cow, I still watch both at least once a year (Halloween and Christmas time), and Ray is still my favorite Ghostbuster.
