When the original Ghostbusters was made it cost $31 million and on release it made $23 million in its opening weekend and was a studio record. It then grossed over $220 million in North America Alone.

I'm not sure how much Ghostbusters 2 cost to make or how much it made at the box office. Also I am not sure how much both movies have made sibce their releases in total.

Anyway, my question is this, if Ghostbusters 3 was released today, how much money do you think it would make in its opening weekend and how much overall at the box office?

Personally, I don't think another sequel could ever match the originals success. also i'm taking into account the fact that there has been a year on, year on slump generally in box office sales over the past 20 years (16% down from last year).

All in all I would have a very rough estimate at around $15 to $18 million for its opening weekend, taking into account that the film would be as good or better than the original.

Well actually I was looking inside the case for my GB2 DVD, and it say that in a three day take it made a box office record of $29.5 million. By the end of its theatrical run it made a total of $112 million.

I dunno if GB3 would make any success these days with that Batman movie in full swing…but I would estimate about $11- 15 million maybe 20 if lucky…. :p

i am pretty sure that if ghostbusters were a quality movie (rivaling the original), it would do just fine its opening weekend. im just about positive it would break 20, and perhaps even 30 if the conditions are right. conditions being: hype around the movie, as in it would need excellent trailers and publicity; date of release would also be important, as in not too much competition. but if it is a really good movie, im pretty sure that by the end of its run, it would break 200 worldwide. but thats just what i think, no evidence to back that up

There is no way you could possibly determine how much the film would make unless you had a set cast and crew, release date and knowledge on all of the other films coming out at the same time.

ghostbusters has not been forgotten about guys. I think if they took 2 years to do production adn post, and pump out the flick, i wouls say around $30-50 Million opening, pening if they give it the right budget…i'm htinking the new film should cost around $100 million to make.

Has this been adjusted for inflation? As I think it would do rather well. The hype of it alone should account for some of the intake as well, looked what happened with Phantom Menace. (Then again that was a definite go ahead, with pre-production underway and casting done etc.) It's been 15-odd years since the second one, I'm sure there'll be plenty of hype around.
