Terrible idea, truly terrible.

For one, the Ghostbusters films don't involve that kind of content, and the idea itself (as previously mentioned) is not original and relies too much on general consumption.

Ghostbusters involves quasi-realistic history and mixes it with real world situations. That's why you get sucked into the canon because while it sounds feasible, ulitmately it's the line between fantasy/reality that allows you to make the bounds that the plot and storyline need to make to develop.

What you're proposing is against the grain for the what's already been established for this series because to this point there hasn't been a manifestation of a spirit powerful enough that hasn't used evil to attach itself or materialize. We haven't seen any good ghosts, and I personally find it demeaning to allocate such a storyline to Ghostbusters. The biggest draw for me is that there is some connection to history with Sumerian religion being thrown in, and the idea of a supernatural murderer sounds too far fetched for me.

If this supernatural killer could kill Venkman, why not just kill all the Ghostbusters and be done with it?

Murder does not belong in the Ghostbusters universe. Ghostbusters is a family friendly, light hearted supernatural comedy. Murder only suits adult and dark comedies.

That idea is almost as worse as the worse movie idea I have ever heard:

Peter getting killed off at the beginning of the movie by being murdered by a serial killer in the opening credits of the movie. Despite his murderer being caught and put to death he still continues to kill. So Peter as a ghost teams up with the Ghostbusters to bring him to an end…a la Frighteners.

Ok, so that idea is worse.

As had been said multiple times, Murder and Death (whether it be an innocent bystander, the Ghostbusters and or characters close to them) have no place in a Ghostbusters story.

jedimiller what I would say is if you want to write a story in which Venkman becomes a ghost, instead of having him the victim of a murder why not have him killed some other way? Perhaps an accident at work for instance. Maybe an accident caused by one of the other Ghostbusters. Venkman is killed while on a bust and Stantz has been blaming himself ever since. The Ghostbusters think they've seen the last of Venkman until a surprise visitor turns up on day.

If you were to write something like that I'd read it though it.

It was a basic Idea. You guys are ruthless! Yeah, it seems to take from GHOST…but remember that Slimer is the dead John Belushi, so why not have a dead Peter? I think it would be cool to see Peter as a ghost joining the ghostbusters in their ghostbustin…he could be the middleman between the dead and the undead. I see peter having a blast as a ghost and scaring people! And also showing up in funny situations.

The idea of him getting killed. Ok, maybe we can scratch that off..maybe he gets killed in an experiment or crossing the streams? Yeah, he dies one day because he crossed the streams…that makes more sense?

Ok, so he comes back, haunts dana, fights the Prince God and saves the day…

At the end we have a farewell, ala ET.

I hate this for the same reason I didn't like IDW's “The Other Side” 4 parter.

Slimer is not the ghost of Belushi, Slimer is meant to be an homage to a character Belushi played in Animal House I believe.

And in the end, the idea of Venkman dying and coming back as a ghost just doesn't work. No matter how you spin it.

I dont have any problem with peter been killed off and coming back as a ghost as long as theres a strong story going with it so it would hold its water on screen with the fans and audience….your script with em been murdered i thought it would not work cause den it turns into a crime/revenge movie that has been done to death in other movies and would not show the ghostbusters doing what they do best…….slimer was'nt origional based on John Belushi….Dan akryod reportedly referred to Slimer as "The Ghost of john belushi"…slimer never actually had a name in the first movie but was known as ‘'The onionhead Ghost’' on set….nobody is been ruthless to your idea….we all have or own thoughts to what ghostbusters 3 could be or would like to be….all writers have to be open to criticism when they show others what ideas to a story they might have…..its nothing personal towards you or the writer
