I think a good punk soundtrack would fit perfectly for ghostbusters. Punk can both be funny and serious at the same time and the mood would be perfect. I assume most gb fans listen to rock music and punk rock (sometimes) is usually in the top 40 hits especially if some popular punk band (blink sum41 new found glory come to mind) did a new version of the song. a little bit of rap wouldnt be bad either.

I would put drowning pool doing “bodies”,maybe powerman 5000 with “bombshell” for the part of the movie when they are running all over the city,of corse Ray Parker jr. doing the theme,Queen doing “another one bites the dust” and who ever does “it's the end of the world”

soundtrack, eh? good question. good thing i'm passionate about this dorky shtuff.
first off, for the score, gotta be danny elfman. accept no substitutes.
they should be new original songs. no old ones. and NO cheezy songs that reference the movie or the title. i freakin' hate it when that happens. i think it should be a mix of rock, rap, r&b, and electronic. all the while, though, appealing to the masses. maybe sumthin' like this:

silverchair
dj shadow
roni size
ginuwine
mirwais
veruca salt (are they still around??)
and maybe some bizarre-yet-cool collaborations?
tricky f/ unreleased aaliyah vocals
no doubt (with timbaland producing)

david bowie (remixed by aphex twin)
method man f/ pink (with neptunes producing)
