I would've liked Ghostbusters 2 to have been slightly more complicated in plot. Even the most diehard GB2 fan would have to admit the plot was a little straight-forward.
If you look at GB1, they had the added dimension of Walter Peck, the “other” bad guy. I mean, not only did they have to investigate Dana's little problem with a demon in her refrigerator, bust other ghosts all over the city, and take down a major spook by the name of Gozer, but they also had the EPA on their backs all the way. And in addition to Peck, GB1 had the love story, the nosey neighbor, the camaraderie between the cops and the Ghostbusters (in the middle of the film), and all the little bit-parts like the guy outside the elevator at the Sedgewick. All these little things combined to make a great film.
Ghostbusters 2 attempted a few sub plots in the form of Louis & Janine and Jack Hardemeyer, but it just wasn't as skillful as the way they did it in GB1. And there were hardly any “minor” characters for the main guys to bounce their witty lines off. They were mostly bouncing jokes off each other instead.
I still love GB2, but I'm afraid in my opinion it could never surpass the original. It's still a great film, though, for everything it did right. Janoz was a funny character, and the weirdness between Peter and Dana was done really well. It's like Peter was trying hard to subtly impress her, but she'd seen it all before and wasn't buying it at first. That was funny for me
