It's either original cast or nothing

Hi everyone, my name is Joel and i'm new to the board. I've been reading various items surrounding the proposed movie who's production seems to be in suspended animation.
There's an idea I was reading about that I disagree with:
Having a younger generation of Ghostbusters! Yuck, that is the WORST idea for the movie. Come on, if we do that, the third installment will lack continuity and we'll have to get to know the new characters with the original hero's making brief appearances! Don't we all want to see how our hero's have aged over the years and see how they cope when they are called back to fight ghosts? That would be really funny, think of it, Peter Viekmans growing pains would be worse than ever! Ray would be more paranormal than usual, Winston would just be himself and Spenglar would be the true academic that he is. I don't believe you guys wanted new Ghostbusters.
So all in all, it's either the friends we made on the big screen in the 80's or no movie, anyway, audiences will consider it a flop if the original cast have dropped off. No thanks, bring back the old boys!

Welcome to the boards! Just a quick bit of info, it's Venkman, not Viekman.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I shall remember the correct name! smile
I realise this has probably all been discussed before, but what are your views on this issue if the movie at a stage in the distant future is to go ahead?

Hi guys!

I was just visiting the site and noticed some of your comments on GB3. While I'm not a strict diehard “Ghosthead” I'm still a fan of the movies. Having said that, I too would like to see a Ghostbusters 3, simply because it Ghostbusters is one of the all time great concepts and it would be great if they at least finished the series off with a trilogy. Though, hearing that Bill Murray is considering limiting his appearance if the movie is made then I have to agree with Morning Glory and others. There is NO POINT in making another one WITHOUT the original members (yes all of them). Otherwise it becomes just a shell of what Ghostbusters and more importantly WHO the Ghostbusters are. Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengle and Winston Zeddemore ARE the Ghostbusters! No one else. If everyone wants a GB3 at the expense at any once, especially Bill Murray not being in the whole movie, then it becomes just a cheap cash-in like the sequel to Dumb and Dumber or Speed 2. Thanks for listening. smile

I dont care if it has the original cast or not. I mean it would be nice, but if they arent in it. Then oh well, I still want a GB 3.

First of all, welcome to the boards, I hope you all come back often!

Anyway, I don't think it's right to just stop at “the original Ghostbusters are the ONLY Ghostbusters, that's it.” Think of it from a storyline point of view. Can they handle all this by themselves anymore? Hired help isn't a big deal. And they ARE aging, so things are tougher for them. And besides that, think of the possibilities!
Check out the thread of “Who would you cast as new GB's?” There are some great ideas in there!

My picks of Chris Rock, Jimmy Fallon, and Jack Black would have not only the original characters we love but new characters we can grow to love just as much as the originals! It would still have the same GB atmosphere, with something fresh added. So I say, nothing wrong with a new cast…

Well, I agree with this to a certain extent. Yes, it would be great to have additions to the Ghostbusters (like what Rick Moranis was hinted at doing in GB2), All I'm saying is it would be a very bad mistake to substitute the original cast with ALL new characters. Most movies that have been made even without the original cast always are a far inferior movie and as a result have failed at the Box Office or were panned by fans of the original movie. Not having the original four Ghostbusters as the main cast is like having a James Bond movie without James Bond.

Hey, I'm all for new characters but NOT at the expense of the originals. I want a GB3 primarily with the original cast and anything after that would be great. Like you said keep it fresh.

True to what morning glory said that it would be realy sweet that the “aging” GBs came back in a third addition to there line of films. :d But has anyone noticed what the oringal GB look like. Egon has gaind a ton of lbs. but it would show how the GB have aged but if they could show a movie with them it would be sweet :s Besides That whats gonna happen this month? I heard sumthing really big was gonna happen? yikes

Jack Black and Chris Rock sound good, but NOOOOOOO Jimmy Fallon. Jimmy is just a wannabe Adam Sandler. Jimmy is not funny, he is annoying and lame.

well i thought i would add in my two cents. i seriously doubt that the original cast would all want to come back i.e. bill murray mostly. but i know dan would love to do it so why not add someone like adam sandler or jim carrey. if they were to add a new GB it would have to be an actor that people are familar with and know that they are funny
