Ivan Reitman Back For GHOSTBUSTERS 3!! But In What Capacity?? + A Plot Snippet…

I've been sitting on this news for a few days now as I can't seem to figure out what's new at this point. So I figured I'd just throw it out there and see how it goes. Why not, right? Anyways, I have straight up confirmed, 100%, without a shadow of a doubt that Ivan Reitman, director of Ghost Busters and Ghostbusters II, is in fact attached to get behind the camera for Ghostbusters 3. While he's attached, the word is that he hasn't decided whether or not he really wants to direct, yet. So, yeah, is that news? But here's a little something else we conjured up. Apparently, the sequel takes place when the paranormal researchers “reopen” their ghost removal service after it has been closed for quite a few years. As previously reported, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver have all confirmed their involvement (in various interviews on the web).

I would be shocked if Moranis came out of retirement for a third GB film given the fact he wouldn't even do the videogame and I was under the impression Weaver wasn't returning, but I did just read that Reitman has confirmed her involvement, supposedly anyways. Hopefully that means the script was just too good for her to pass up. You've got to think after so many years of trying to get everyone on board the script must be pretty good if everyones signed off on it. Then again Indiana Jones 4 took a long time to get off the ground due to lack of a good script and the movie was still a bit of a letdown. Although I think a third GB film has an advantage in that everyone involved seems to think GB2 was a letdown so they really want to try and get a GB3 right and make up for that, whereas a film like Indy 4 probably took it's success for granted and felt like they could just throw Harrison Ford back on the big screen with his fedora and whip and get away with anything. So here's hoping GB3 gets done and gets done right.

Yeah. Hopefully the idea is they retired themselves, rather than got shut down, dude to lack of ghosts. Something consistent that would require a custodial presence (Ray?) in the firehouse so they're not just doing odd jobs again. Another rehash would be a little hard to stomach, even with the best jokes in the world.

Ok, a couple things…

This is a misquote. He has said he would like there to be a team of 5 new Ghostbusters, with some females. He has never said all females, and has been misquoted as having said so on many websites.

I get that you may not want to see any new Ghostbusters, but to say “Sorry, Aykroyd, this will be the last because I only want the originals” makes it sound like you think you have some say in this, which despite how much we all would… we have none. If they decide to make it with a bunch of kids, completely CGI, and make it something totally different than Ghostbusters, that's their choice. We don't have to like it, and we don't have to pay money to see it, but they can still make it. They don't need our permission.
