Latest GB Comic Info

Its all cool. like I said before, I do ALOT of odd stuff and it's sometimes hard for folks to take it all in and believe me.

Answer#1: Deep Salvage is a medieval fantasy comic series. Imagine Dungeons & Dragons, Mission: Impossible, and The Antiques Roadshow all jumbled up in a comic story. That's the fundamental idea of it. I could ramble on about it for pages and pages, but I would most likely end up sounding like one of those poor souls who thinks everyone shoud hear the minute details of their last gaming session! Anyway, its got a pretty good comedy element to it, but its more true situational comedy than outright joke telling. Each story ends on a high note.

Answer #2: The posing I did for Steve was multitudinous and geberal. He didn't shoot alot of specific stuff according to scripted scenes. He really just wanted to see a GB suit up close so he could get the wrinkles and how the pack hung on the back and details of the gear. So, no, I didn't really do much in the way of acting out specific stuff.

Steve shot me in my living room (omigodd!!! Call the Cops! Steve Kurth in the Living Room with the camera!!!). After he would shoot me lying on his back on the floor, he'd run up the stairs to the landing and shoot me looking down from above and all that. He really wanted to see the stuff from all different angles so he'd have generic material to draw from (no pun intended). I'm pretty sure he used some of the reference he shot of me getting out of the gear in one of the issues so far. You know, that sort-of half-dressed thing that adds a little realism. He took shots of me removing my pack and getting out of the jumpsuit from the waist up. He also took dozens of shots of the gear just laying on the floor so he'd know what the shapes were all about and how they related to each other. The cover of issue #3 is pretty much based on all my gear as far as I can tell. Definitely the trap pedal, which I built from plans available online.

I also bought the Polar Lights Ecto-1 kit along the way when I was building my gear and so he took images of that assembled for reference… which is why you can clearly match up the images of the car in the comic with the details of the kit. I still think it would be funny if he had included the sprue marks…but he didn't. I thought it was hilarious when Michael Golden put “peg holes” in the bottoms of the feet of the Bucky O'Hare characters. But I was probably the only one…

Anyway, that's the story as it's known. My brush with GB stardom.

Cool, I wish you luck with the comic projects, they sound interesting.

While I wouldn't use the Polar Lights Ecto as my only reference, it is a fairly good reference source, if you know he hasn't got a link to it, a good source for Ecto pics is Ghostbusters Props

This will probably be my last post here as I seem to be a not-very-popular guy for expressing my opinions elsewhere. Being attacked personally has left me with a very bad impression and if that's the tone, then I'll just move away and let the board alone.

But yes, Ben, I have seen that site. I have a posting there in the archives. Pictures of some of the gear that I built. No shots of my goggles or the PKE Meter… didn't finish those until later. In fact, the meter still isn't done.

When I was building my GB gear I searched alot of sites for detail information about the proton pack and the trap and such. When I was done, I posted some shots to that site and one other (don't recall the site now).

Well, thanks for the good wishes on the comic. I have another book that will be available through Cafe Press in a few months too. Its an anthropomorphic title that appeared originally in Furrlough magazine from Radio Comix. I've collected all the episodes and will have them all bound together with a new short story by the artist. Its kind-of fun because it was my first comic. And everyone else who was involed too. The artist made real leaps and bounds as he progressed in his understanding of how to tell a visual story. The letterer finally got the hang of making the type legible, and I managed to edit my own work with an almost savage ferocity.

And none of us got paid.

I'm sorry to hear that, unfortunately as I don't have Legion# 3 yet, I don't want to go post in the L3 topic…hopefully I will on Saturday…I assume that's where most of the ‘unpopularity’ is coming from?

I'm also sorry to hear that you didn't get paid for that comic, but if you enjoyed doing it then that was part worth it.

I got that email today, I wasn't expecting it on my other email, but that's what happens when I don't check it too much. (*winston)

Anyway:

The Comic Art

The reference Pic

Move the camera slightly and I think it'd be the same angle, there seem to be some folds in the jumpsuit which seem to match the real life reference, definately the folds and creases near the bottom of the legs.

Try comic book stores, not just regular book stores. Most stores have sold out of the previous issues, though you may luck into some of 2-4. If you need to order them online, go to www.grahamcrackers.com

I've got a subsciption at ScifiGenre.com and it works great for me. They automatically send you the next issue each time a new issue is released, and protect the comics very well in the shipping process so they'll arrive to you in perfect condition. Shipping is an additional $2 per issue(In US and maybe Canada, international costs more), but I don't mind since it saves me the trouble of having to drive out to my nearest comic book store(45 minutes away) and worrying that they might be sold out. If you want Legion issues, you'll have to check in the back issues section, but the ongoing series is up for subscription.
