Hey, I wasn't sure if everyone has posted this news, but I thought I'd post this here:
Here is the latest news from 88mphstudios.com

A quick update to inform you all that the ongoing series is NOT canceled.

Also, the hard cover trade of the Legion mini-series will now be offered directly from us and pre-ordering will be made on this website.

More details next week.

According to this interview with Sebastian, the Ghostbusters will no longer be published as a series, but as a trade collection every few months (I assume?) with a slightly higher price.

At least, that's what it sounds like to me.

If this is indeed the case, than it means that the ongoing series is, for all intents and purposes, cancelled. What would've been the ongoing will see release as a series of trade paperbacks. Which is a little bit of a letdown, as I was hoping to collect individual issues. Still, I'll take Ghostbusters any way I can get 'em.

I've never totally understood why some people prefer singular issues, they're easier to lose or damage, harder to collect depending on their rarity and overall less hard waring then say a Graphic novel, plus there's more content per book then a regular comic book…the only downsize is a reduced schedule…but isn't that worth it for about double the content?

From Sebastian:

Hello all!

I don't argue that the issues could have been released on a more regular basis. I also admit that some might have been irked by cancelations. I apologize for these delays and have only myself to blame for them, however I do hope that the quality of the books made up for the delays.

However my passion for the franchise has no end and my goal is to deliver, one way or the other, a high quality product that Ghostheads and casual fans alike will appreciate.

Shigeru Miyamoto (creator of Donkey Kong, Mario and Zelda), once said : “A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever.” A great line that can be modified for many things, for comics it'd go like this : “A delayed comic is eventually good, a bad comic is bad forever.” I am not trying to find excuses to these delays, but hopefully making a point that sometimes delays pay off in quality.

Despite delays, the comics are great quality and the creative team did an amazing job which deserves to be credited.

I hope I did not come off sounding like a snob, a big head or anything of that sort. I'm a regular working stiff, a comic fan and most importantly a GB fan who tries to make sure the franchise is represented in comic book form in the best way possible.

The trade is a high quality hard cover, 136 pages long, filled with bonus material, a preface by Dan Aykroyd and a true collectible. I hope fans will order this one of a kind collectible.

The ongoing series is set to be published quarterly, with more pages than single issues and be the same great quality the first issues were. Shooting for quality over quantity.

Best Regards

I understand your point, Kingpin, and it's a convention of thought I followed for a while, but the problem with buying trades is that you aren't supporting the monthly title, thus, hurting sales of the book and ultimately causing the cancellation of the series. There was a good discussion about this at Newsarama.com a while back by a professional comic book creator, I believe it was a She-hulk writer. The point being, if everyone decides to buy trades, there won't be a need for a monthly. And in most cases, only successful monthlies become TPBs.

Since 88MPH is planning to go with trades only this sales theory won't affect them, but there are other factors that will. I do with them the best of success, as the creative team has done a good job.

Video killed the radio star and TPBs will kill the comic book. I hear people on the SHH boards always saying that they're gonna wait for the TPBs to read a title or a story arc or what have you. People are not collectors anymore. And it doesn't help that companies are making the slow move towards ridding themselves of the comic format once and for all with things being done for easy TPB conversion. It's kinda like VHS and DVD, folks. They used to be released simultaneously, but really…do you see that many VHSs these days?

Comic books, a 70 year format, is becoming extinct.

Well, to be honest how many comic fans are out there now? And I think the most telling question is how many new comic readers are out there? Ya know teeangers and younger?

Comic sales have been crappy across the board. Only reason Marvel and DC make a ton of $$ is cause the sell their rights to make movies. That's it.

Comic books are fighting for the attention of kids. And lets be realistic most kids dont like to read 'cause they can watch TV, play video games, ETC.

I love comics but to be honest nothing has been catching my attenion. I dont feel as if “wow I need to read that” Mostly its like, eh I should read that…when I get to the comic store……which hasnt been for nearly 3 months now.
