Didn't those toy ones from the 80's open when you stepped on the button? Buy one of those, see how they did it and copy it. Or -if you're into destroying holy relics- take out that mechanism and install it in your trap.

Reverse engineering works with any similar device though. I always recommend using toys though, cause the parts are cheaper.

Of course, if you just want them to open, I suggest making them spring-loaded, you know, attaching a spring to the inside of the door and the inside of the trap, then you just need to install a catch and you're good to go.

The mechanism is really just an air-pump–stepping on the foot-pedal would send a puff of air to a base with a red column in it. The column would pop up, opening the trap doors.

*sigh* But such amusement was not to last. Kenner unwisely made the foot pedal itself from molded rubber of some kind, which would harden, grow brittle, and develop cracks over the years, so the trap would eventually stop working.

Jogi, if your trap is made out of wood, I wouldn't use the RGB trap's mechanism, because I don't think it could take the strain of lifting two comparatively heavy wooden doors. I'll let you in on a little secret, though: a few proppers like using servo motors to open and close the trap's doors. You'd just need to install them, rig up a power source/control switch, and you have it made.

ah ha! I knew it! Thanks Nix!

Personally, I would suggest making the doors out of aluminum or plexiglass anyway. Wooden ones would be unnessescarily heavy. They would make the trap more cumbersome than it would need to be.

the doors of my trap are made out of wood, but this is a light-weight wood!
i was thinking about a servo-motor in the past too, so i went to an rc modelshop!
the owner told me it operates allways over “3” wires!
u know, 2 to actually operate and over the last one u can set the angle of turn (steering wheels)!
but these are realy expansive and working “ONLY” with a rc transmitter!
nothing for me!
i need something like this:
a servo that runs only on “2” wires!
full rotation when getting power and fall back when releasing the button!
