You don't have to respond to this, nor do you have to read it. I saw the Lord of the Rings on opening night. I have read the trilogy as well as the silmarilion, the tolkien reader and unfinished tales. This is my opinion:
Overall, the move was good, I would pay to see it again……I just might, but there were several things that Iliked and disliked about it. As a whole, the movie lacked two main elements: mystery and toil. I say toil, because the movie completely skips all of the scenes where we see them stuggle in daily life….there is very little character developement. I say mystery, because the movie leaves nothing to the imagination, everything is in your face. Ex: the dark riders. Normally, you would expect to just see a hard or something, thats it. But when they are in the scenes, you just see them blatently. It is my opinion that it is impossible for any director to mess up when filming the lord of the rings…..this is no exception. The movie was magnicently done. But because it lacked an element of mystery and toil, I do not thing it will get a huge cult following from the younger crowds (14 and under). I was affraid that arwin would be over played, and she was, but it was tastefull, so don't worry. Although she did replace galidriel in his key scene in the movie. The graphics where spectacular, but excessive…….which I believe also adds to the lack of mystery. He needed to leave things out. You don't need to show two guys fighting, and when you do, only show a little, you have to let the audience spark it's imagination……it didn't do that. But, overall, I still loved it. For anyone who has read the books, you must see it, for those who haven't, this movie will got you into the books.

p.S. I thought there were too many action scenes too.
