MattyCollector 12" Scale Ecto-1

Howdy folks,

It's time for an awesome community-driven fan project to lead us into Ghostbusters.org. I think this is that project. Many people have mentioned how great it would be to have an Ecto-1 that compliments the excellent 12" MattyCollector Ghostbusters action figures.

So, I figured, what's the harm in organizing a group to do some research and figure out the costs involved in doing it ourselves. That's exactly what I intend to do, so who's with me?

An outline of things to discuss.

1) Determine the vehicle scale needed to accommodate the 12" figures + accessories.
2) Possible model kits / pre-built part collections that could be re-used in achieving the end result.
3) Functionality of roof rack and possibility of RC.

Mattel could do it, basically a upscaled version of Kenner's Ecto-1 with better detailing and electric lights and sound. It would probably cost close to 200 dollars. This would probably not be as detailed as hot toys batmobile but it would allow for at least two 12" characters to ride in the front and maybe some in the back. It would be neat to have a pull out proton pack storage rack from the back door like in the movies. If they could get the price around 150 dollars I think they could sell enough to make it a worth while sales risk. Mego used to make vehicles for their toylines quite often and that was an eight inch scale line such as the Torino for Starsky and Hutch, the Batmobile for the Duo, and who could forget the General Lee for the Duke boys. These were basically plastic molds snapped together with wheels and some stickers but they looked pretty good especially for the 1970's. I would buy Ecto-1 in a 1/6 scale in a heart beat.

Your custom Kenner Ecto-1 and Ecto-1A are really well done, great job. I did some digging and it looks like there aren't any 1959 1/6 scale kits of any kind (model / RC / die-cast).

This project sort of hinges off our ability to find a 1/6 scale kit that is somewhat similar to a 1959 Cadillac. I will do some digging, who else is in?

A 1/6th scale Ecto would be awesome. But no clue where to find one. Last I saw a 12th scale Caddy was a long time ago and it was a 59 caddy convertible, if I remember right. it was an eldorado.

What did you use for the two cars? They came out really nice. And I certianly do not recall a roof rack on the original Kenner cars being that far different. Nice work!
